Zakk Wylde Announces Very Special Book Release Events In New York City - Details Available!

Zakk Wylde never stops! His latest book "Bringing Metal to the Children: The Complete Berzerker’s Guide to World Tour Domination" is available now in paperback via William Morrow.

In the book, Zakk shares what really goes on behind tour bus windows and stage doors.

"If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s really like to tour with a big-time metal group, this is the definitive statement," wrote Guitar World Editor-in-Chief Brad Tolinski in his original column about the book.

"While most rock bios focus on the 'sensitive inner-workings' of the artist, Zakk dispenses with all that comedy and gets down to the drinking, the vomiting, the disgusting pranks and non-stop jackass behavior that describes actual touring life.

"Or, as he explains in the book’s intro, “You lucky motherfuckers are gonna learn what it takes to tear through shows on the road in pure Black Label fashion, rollin’ though hell and destroying everything in your path.”

Wylde has just announced a series of very special book release events on June 11th and 12th at The Iridium in New York City. Here is a word from Zakk:
"An Evening with Yours Truly a/k/a The Book Tour of Doom June 11 & 12 NYC! 2 shows per night."

Philip Anselmo Tag Teamed By Zakk Wylde & Dave Ellefson At The Golden Gods Awards!

Heavy Music history was written on Thursday, May 2 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles, CA. Not only did the Revolver Golden Gods Awards welcome the elite of the music we all love, but the energy inside the sold out venue was incomparable. Here is a scoop of who won what, and who performed with who.

During the awards ceremony, former PANTERA and current DOWN frontman Philip Anselmo, was tag teamed backstage by BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's leader Zakk Wylde and MEGADETH's own Dave Ellefson. The result was a very cool interview as you will see below.

The entire event was dedicated to SLAYER's Jeff Hanneman, who passed away yesterday morning from liver failure. Details HERE!

Philip Anselmo Pens Letter To Vinnie Paul, But Is A Reconciliation Even Possible?

As previously reported, both Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown are ready to patch things up with Vinnie Paul Abbott and perhaps setup a PANTERA reunion with Zakk Wylde on guitar. From what we have been told, it wouldn't be a full fledged reunion for PANTERA but simply a tribute jam to Dimebag Darrell Abbott (Vinnie's brother).

However, Vinnie Paul has said that
"I just don't have any interest in it, man. I'm happy doing what I do, I'm enjoying being in a band where everybody really enjoys being around each other, likes each other. And I just don't have any interest in living in the past, man. I wanna move forward in my life and that's all there is to it."

Anselmo recently inked the following letter via Loudwire.

"
Well, first and foremost, I’d tell him I love him. I love the guy — as different as both of us are individually, we’re very different people. But the same can be said for all of us in Pantera. Rex [Brown] and I are very different people.

"Dimebag and everybody [were] very different people. I would let Vince Paul know that I love him very much, and I would apologize to him for his misinterpretation in not understanding where I was coming from in my lowest point in our career. And then I would definitely touch upon how much lack of communication played a big role in our breaking up. A lot of that is on my back, which I’ve completely f—in’ owned up to. But I’m not sure the rest of them have owned up to their side of things, especially Vince, when it comes to communication.

"At least in my life, I cannot hold onto grudges. It’s a waste of energy, a waste of time. And really, and I feel strongly about this, after we lost Dimebag in such a horrific way, I just cannot help but feel that Vinnie Paul’s entire healing process could have been helped a lot more had he reached out to Rex and I, and we could have healed somehow together — whether you want to call it ‘healing’ or not. But if we would have really focused together on this thing and come out of it as brothers — because we are brothers — in certain ways we could have formed an even stronger bond together. But that did not happen and I think it’s hurt us.

"Put it this way, I don’t ever expect Vince to bend or break on his stance at all, I really don’t. But if ever given the chance, man, to get straight back to your f—in’ question, I would just really give him all the apologies, I’d tell him I love him and then I would say, ‘Look, let’s get down to differences now. You’re gonna have to hear my side of it. Take it or leave it, because you can leave it – you’ve already locked it out for x amount of years. What’s the harm in hearing me out one on one, away from everybody? What’s the harm?’

"I have no anger toward Vince. No one can question a person — really he saw Darrell get shot. That’s a scarring thing for anybody. I wish it can be seen for what it is and that blame did not have to fall on anyone’s head or any circumstance. Because really it was a psychopath who had a hard-on for Pantera and it’s very well-known fact between Rex and I, between my family and myself — we all had to go through a lot of soul searching — but it could have been Rex, it could have been me, it could have been Vince. It was Darrell that was murdered and it’s just the way it happened. I could say, “I wish it would have been me’” or anything like that — I can say a million f—in’ things, man, and it still would not bring Dime back.

"So this is always gonna be a tough thing to talk about, and I really wish instead of talking about it in this interview, Vince and I can be talking about it together and just ironing this thing out. I’ll end it with this: I don’t think this is fair to the Pantera fans. I really don’t. When you’re a fan of a band, you don’t wanna hear about them fighting. You don’t want to hear about their negativity. You don’t want to read that s–t. You don’t want to f—in’ hear about that crap.

"I think it would mean a whole lot to a whole lot of people if one day Vince and I and Rex could all sit in the same room and work things out to the best of [our] abilities. I think everyone would breathe a great big sigh of relief, but the sad thing is I just don’t see it happening."

Here is a recent interview we conducted with Rex Brown, in which he talks about the bands chemistry when things were good and about the legacy of his brother Dimebag!

Meet the Zakk Wylde "Berzerker Burger" - Images Available!

On your favorite holiday (4/20), BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's leader Zakk Wylde was present at Grill 'Em All for the launch of his very own "Berzerker Burger"!

Described as
a monstrous burger with two blackened half pound patties, Eagle Rock Solidarity battered onion rings, white truffle pomme frites, chipotle ketchup, cheddar, and thick cut bacon all smothered in chili, all packed in a
bun branded with a Black Label Society skull (of course).

"Doing a Zakk Wylde burger is a dream come true for us because the guy is everything we dig about Metal. We thought, 'What would Zakk Wylde like? Um, yeah, beer and spice!' TWO blackened patties with boozy onion rings, truffle fries, and chipotle ketchup; we know this burg is going to make people meat drunk." -
Matt Chernus, co-owner of Grill 'Em All.

According to Metal Hammer, Grill ‘Em All specially commissioned two branding irons with the BLS skull; one for use in the restaurant, and the other, signed by Zakk in a commemorative wooden box, will be auctioned off soon, with the proceeds going to The One Fund—the charity established to assist the families affected by the recent tragedies in Boston (http://onefundboston.org).

Philip Anselmo to the fans: "forget about a PANTERA reunion"

As previously reported, both Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown are ready to patch things up with Vinnie Paul Abbott and perhaps setup a PANTERA reunion with Zakk Wylde on guitar. From what we have been told, it wouldn't be a full fledged reunion for PANTERA but simply a tribute jam to Dimebag Darrell Abbott (Vinnie's brother).

And I just don't have any interest in living in the past, man. I wanna move forward in my life and that's all there is to it."

Anselmo has answered Vinnie's comments during an interview with
Radio Metal in France. You can listen to the entire chat here. An excerpt of the interview follows (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

"Look, I've said it in the past… It's not a very hopeful thing to think about, because I would guess Vinnie Paul and I would have to sit down and talk, and right now, I don't think he wants to talk about that at all. And he definitely, sure as hell, doesn't wanna talk to me. Put it this way: my door is open always; his door is closed and locked. And until we can sort the situation out — if we can ever sort the situation out — then I would pretty much forget about a PANTERA reunion."

Vinnie Paul Reacts To Philip Anselmo's Invitation To End Their Feud In Honor Of Dimebag!

This is what Anselmo told Wikimetal Brazil about patching things up with Vinnie Paul:

"Honestly — and I've spoken with Zakk about it as well — we're very aware of the public perception out there, but honestly, until I speak with Vinnie Paul, which has not yet happened, and it doesn't look like it's going to happen, nothing can happen. Honestly, I tell you, my phone is on the hook, my e-mail is wide open, my door is wide open. I would love to talk with Vince. Honestly, if there were no more bad feelings and we could talk, and we could come to an understanding, I think it would mean not only a lot for me and myself — it would mean the world to me — but it would mean a great deal to the fans out there as well. I think people don't want to see this arguing anymore. It's time for some peace. It's time for some brotherhood. And honestly, we should be setting an example instead of being the opposite. And I'll just say that my door is wide open, and so far, Vinnie's door is closed, and it's a shame."

Recently, Envision Radio Networks' "Hangar 19" chatted with Vinnie Paul Abbott. This is what Vinnie had to say about the possibility of patching things up with Anselmo and a possible PANTERA reunion jam:

"I just don't have any interest in it, man. I'm happy doing what I do, I'm enjoying being in a band where everybody really enjoys being around each other, likes each other. And I just don't have any interest in living in the past, man. I wanna move forward in my life and that's all there is to it."

Today Is National Beer Day, Celebrate It Responsibly!

Have you ever wondered what a Heavy Music show would be without a good amount of cold refreshing beer? It would be like eating a burger without bacon and cheese! While we as Metaleros tend to disagree and argue about different bands, we all agree that beer is the international drink of choice for the headbangers of the world.

Today is National Beer Day, yes a day devoted to our favorite drink! Whither you are cheap beer drinker and love the taste of Coors Light, Bud Light and PBR. Or you only consume high quality beer because you believe in catching a quality buzz. We can all agree that beer is a key element of the music scene we all love! So how did this awesome Metallic beverage arrive to the United States Of Metal?

As we all know, Milwaukee (beer capital of the world) is synonymous to beer here in the United States and is were the first brewery (The Milwaukee Brewery) was established in the 1850's. But who brought beer into the United States? The Germans of course. When the Germans arrived to Milwaukee in the 1850's, they brought with them the knowledge of how to brew the best beer in the world (whoever argues that German beer is not the best, doesn't know much about beer). Did you know that Milwaukee was once the home to four of the world's largest breweries (Schlitz, Blatz, Pabst, and Miller)? Here is Alice Cooper explaining the meaning behind the name Milwaukee, during his cameo appearance on Wayne's World.

So how did National Beer Day get established?

In 1933 during the prohibition era, President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act on March 23rd. The law was enacted on April 7th. This law gave the green light for the legal brewing and sale of beer in the United States as long as it was < 3.2% (4% ABV). It is said that numerous amount of people waited in line overnight on April 6th outside Milwaukee breweries just so they could legally buy beer for the first time in over 13 years. And this is why April 7th (today) is National Beer Day and April 6th is called New Beers Eve.

Here is a rundown of which Metal icons have made beer popular within the Heavy Music world:

- Pantera: The Kings Of Metal would often bring cups of beer on stage and throw them to the hungry crowd. They also required for anyone working with them to be an avid drinker, because in Pantera once the show was over, it was party time!

- Metallica (or Alcohollica): They are not only the biggest Heavy Metal band in history, but they used to also be the drunkest band of them all. As we all know James Hetfield took an extended break in 2001 to go through a rehabilitation process.

- Slayer: The most evil band in Heavy Metal supports beer, almost as much as they support religion (yeah right). Guitarist Jeff Hanneman had a guitar built for him with the Heineken logo with a twist involved: the guitar reads Hanneman (instead of Heineken), Anti Christ - Premium Quality.

- Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society): The mountain man of Metal was an avid Beck's drinker and would often have a case or two with him, which he would consume while doing press. He had to cut-down after having his doctors found blood clots in his body.

The list goes and on, but you get the picture. So Heavy National Beer Day and remember to never drink and drive, drinking is fun but don't be stupid! \m/

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY "Unplugs" Themselves In Los Angeles, CA - Set List & Images Available!

This past Wednesday, March 6, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY leader Zakk Wylde was the center of attention at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California. The occasion? Wylde and his band performed a very special "unplugged" concert for an upcoming DVD entitled "Unblackened". Our friend Jamie Harvey from Grammy.com, was present at the event and put together a pretty solid review. Here are a few excerpts of her review, followed by some images of Wylde and crew. Enjoy!

- The band's concert at Club Nokia celebrated his career outside of his renowned stint with the legendary Ozzy Osbourne, summarizing his body of work with his early '90s project Pride & Glory, solo albums such as 1996's 'Book Of Shadows', and his catalog with BLS, which spans nearly 15 years.

- The BLS crowd is akin to a biker gang: They all ... and I mean all ... wear BLS back patches adorning vests and coats and BLS shirts. They refer to themselves as "chapters" based on location, and they're all part of a "family." As the chapters assembled, some seated and some standing, and some with a glass of beer or whiskey in hand, they meandered around equipment set up to both live stream the show on AXS TV and to record the performance for a live DVD/CD to be titled 'Unblackened'.

- Set List:

"Losin' Your Mind"
"The Blessed Hellride"
"Sold My Soul"
"Road Back Home"
"Spoke In The Wheel"
"House Of Doom"
"Queen Of Sorrow"
"Machine Gun Man"
"Sweet Jesus"
"In This River"
"Throwin' It All Away"
"Takillya (Estyabon)"
"Won't Find It Here"
"Rust"
"Speedball"
"I Thank You Child"
"Stillborn"

PANTERA: Zakk Wylde Would Be 'Beyond Honored' To Perform In A "Reunion"!

Recently, Mitch Lafon of Pure Grain Audio conducted an interview with Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE) at Le Métropolis in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Wylde was asked about a PANTERA "reunion", of course, and here is what he had to say about it:

"I'm friends with all the [former PANTERA members]. Phil [Anselmo, former PANTERA singer] called me up when they did that 'Metal Masters' thing. [A guy] who does security with us, he came over and said, 'Phil just wanted to say 'Hey.' He wanted to give you a call.' So I said, 'Yeah, tell Phil to call me whenever he wants.' So I got on the phone with Phil and I was just shooting the shit with him. He goes, 'Zakk, everyone thinks there's a rift [between us].' I said, 'Phil, I get along with everybody.' He said, 'I wish I could talk with Vin [former PANTERA drummer and Dimebag's brother, Vinnie Paul Abbott]' and this and that. So I said, 'Dude, just pour your heart out and talk to him.'"

He added, "It's up to the guys [if they ever want to play together again]. Put it this way: If they were, like, 'We're gonna do this and they asked me to play Dime's guitar parts, I'd be honored. I was a pallbearer for him, so he was my brother, man. And I know if he was on the side of the stage watching me play, he'd be laughing his balls off — that's just a fact. He'd go, 'Hey, jackass, you missed a couple of notes over here. You botched this one up,' or whatever. He'd love every second of it. But, of course, I'd be beyond honored to do that; why wouldn't I? But that's a call the guys [have to] make."

This is what Anselmo had to say regarding a potential PANTERA jam session withe Wylde on guitar: "Absolutely. That whole thing was taken way out of context. All that happened was Zakk and I spoke and what it was about was just a personal issue between he and I that was worked out quickly and easily. We were cozy as kittens after that, and we just shot the shit. And honestly? The whole PANTERA thing did not come up at all. Whoever interviewed me, and I fuckin' forget the whole thing, but it was taken out of context because we didn't even talk about PANTERA reuniting or anything like that. Matter of fact, we talked about relations and mutual friends and just honestly everybody getting along and that's really all we talked about."

It is pretty obvious that Anselmo reached out to Wylde in order to patch things up with Vinnie Paul, and not to line up a PANTERA "reunion".

Philip Anselmo About PANTERA Jamming With Zakk Wylde: "The whole PANTERA thing did not come up at all. That whole thing was taken way out of context."

It seems like Philip Anselmo is finally dismissing the rumors about a potential PANTERA jam with Zakk Wylde stepping in for the late great "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. During a recent interview with The Village Voice, it was reported that Anselmo had an extensive conversation with Wylde, and that Wylde would be interested in jamming with the remaining members of PANTERA: Philip Anselmo, Vinnie Paul and Rex Brown.

Well, allegedly The Village Voice took Anselmo's words "out of context". Here is an excerpt from a recent fan-driven interview that Ultimate Guitar conducted with members of DOWN:

Ultimate-Guitar.com:

You've been talking about having Zakk Wylde come in on guitar if PANTERA ever toured again? (Anselmo reportedly told The Village Voice last month about a possible PANTERA reunion with Zakk on guitar, "I talked to Zakk about two weeks ago, and he's very open for it. He's got an open mind about it. But, truth be told, Vince [Vinnie Paul Abbott, Dimebag's brother and former PANTERA drummer] has got a grudge against me that is really unfounded. And, honestly, I've always had a wide-open door when it comes to Vince.")

Anselmo:

"Absolutely.

We really hope this is the end of this ridiculous "reunion" talk. Let the PANTERA beast alone! Both Vinnie Paul and Rex Brown already said there is no way this is going to happen, so lets all collectively move on. There are plenty of awesome bands within Heavy Music right now!

Philip Anselmo Keeps Getting Asked About A PANTERA "Reunion"!

It seems like the Heavy Music community is having a hard time moving on from the PANTERA days and focusing on the massive amount of talented bands that surfaced after the demise of PANTERA 11 years ago. While both Vinnie Paul (drummer) and Rex Brown (bassist) discard a PANTERA "reunion" since it is impossible to bring legendary guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott back from the dead, Philip Anselmo is ready to do it!

While this is a constant topic of discussion, we believe it is time to move on and let the PANTERA legacy be! Many believe that Zakk Wylde would be the perfect man to pay tribute to Dime, but to be honest you need at least two guitarists if you want to get even close to PANTERA infamous guitar sound. At the recent Metal Masters IV in New York City, it took SLAYER's Kerry King and Gary Hold, PLUS ANTHRAX's Scott Ian, to perform a slew of PANTERA songs and they managed to give them justice.

According to a recent interview with the Village Voice, Anselmo and Wylde spoke recently about the possibility of a PANTERA "reunion":

"I talked to Zakk about two weeks ago, and he's very open for it. He's got an open mind about it. But, truth be told, Vince [Abbott] has got a grudge against me that is really unfounded. And, honestly, I've always had a wide-open door when it comes to Vince.

"If it takes me standin' there and lettin' that little guy punch me in the fuckin' face repeatedly, over and over and over, til his hands were tired of hittin' my rock-hard fuckin' head, as long as we could sit down and talk afterwards, I'm all for it, man.

"Well, now, I didn't say that the Pantera thing is a realistic thing. I don't think that's the important thing. I think what the important thing is, what Zakk and I discussed, is just Vince actually dropping his guard and realizing there is no treachery afoot."

Here are a couple of interviews we conducted with Vinnie and Rex, in which they make it VERY clear that a PANTERA "reunion" is not going to happen.
