Karl Sanders: 20 Years Of NILE & The State Of Death Metal In 2013!

The reigning kings of technical, historically-themed brutality, NILE, are currently trekking all over North America on what they have dubbed as the "At The Gate Of Sethu North American Tour" (agenda available below). On this not to be missed tour, NILE is performing two sets per show (for the first time in their career) in celebration of the bands 20th anniversary.

Additionally, the band is only performing with unsigned local bands at each market in order to help impulse the underground of Heavy Music. Well done, NILE!

Prior to the bands recent concert at B.B. King in New York City, which took place on Sunday, March 10, we had the chance to chat with the bands vocalist and guitarist Karl Sanders. During the chat we discussed the bands 20th anniversary tour and his decision to only have local bands opening each and every show. We also talked about the bands latest album 'At The Gate Of Sethu', and he even offered an update on the state of Death Metal in 2013. So buckle up, crank the volume, and enjoy!

NILE's 20th Anniversary Tour: Full Agenda Available!

This year, NILE is celebrating their 20th anniversary! In celebration of their epic career, NILE will tour the United States once again this March and April with 28 shows supported by three of the best local bands in every market. Each night, NILE will play two massive sets with music spanning their prolific, twenty year career.

“In order to commemorate our 20th year as a band,” states guitarist/vocalist Karl Sanders, “we want to bring NILE and all Metal fans an evening of NILE music that spans our entire career and play two full sets with only a brief intermission.  After years of many package tours, the necessary set time restrictions have often meant that NILE’s had to streamline our set.  Fans didn’t always get to hear the songs they came to hear.  Thankfully, some of those classic NILE songs we have been itching to play for years will now get a chance to be heard live.  We are extremely fired up.”

“Another facet of this tour which was very important to us,” continues Sanders, “we have asked promoters to include the best three local bands from their respective areas on the bill.  Supporting local bands in each city is a way for us to give something back to younger bands and the metal scene.  We’ve asked promoters to keep ticket prices low, so that fans of all ages can come and join us for an evening of metal.  In these difficult times of our recessionary economy, an evening of killer metal shouldn’t have to break the bank.   NILE are going to do our part: biting the bullet and rolling the dice to bring metal fans in the USA an unforgettable evening with NILE for a reasonable ticket price. We are sincerely looking forward to seeing all our friends and fans at the shows in 2013!”

During 2012, Horns Up Rocks had the chance to interview dozens of artists about their various musical endeavors. 12) Vinnie Paul (HELLYEAH, Ex-PANTERA): Earlier this year, the great folks over at Eleven Seven Music invited us to their headquarters to chat with HELLYEAH! While the scenario wasn't very Rock N' Roll, we were in a conference room, the HELLYEAH boys were very open to discuss anything we threw at them. During this segment, Vinnie Paul clears the air about a potential PANTERA reunion and he even pays tribute to PINK FLOYD! Check it out!



11) Danny Worsnop (ASKING ALEXANDRIA): Right before ASKING ALEXANDRIA opened the main stage one last time at this year's Mayhem Fest, we had the chance to chat with vocalist Danny Worsnop about the bands experience at the fest. We also discussed how he has managed to overcome his addiction to drugs and the bands future plans.



10) Matt Heafy (TRIVIUM): Prior to Matt Heafy's first ever acoustic performance, we had the chance to chat with Heafy about what fans can expect on the next TRIVIUM album and the bands recent festival performances in Europe and Canada. We also discussed his involvement with Moscot Music and TRIVIUM's musical philosophy.



9) Frank Mullen (SUFFOCATION): Prior to SUFFOCATION's crushing "Long Island Hall Of Fame" celebratory performance, we chatted with Frank Mullen (the bands front man and vocalist), and he shocked us with the news that he will not be touring full time with the band upon the release of their NEW album 'The Pinnacle of Bedlam' (set to be released in February/March of 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records) due to his current commitment with his full time job.



8) Jesse Leach (KILLSWITCH ENGAGE & THE EMPIRE SHALL FALL): If one had to point fingers at who is responsible for KSE's and TESF's musical direction, all fingers would be pointed at vocalist/lyricist Jesse Leach. Regardless of which band he is with, Leach always brings with him a bag full of tricks that are ever-changing. His energy on stage is addicting, and his vocal projection is always on point.



7) Karl Sanders (NILE): During NILE's recent tour stop in New York City with THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, SKELETONWITCH and HOUR OF PENNANCE, we had the chance to sit down and chat with NILE's own Karl Sanders. During the conversation we discussed the bands legacy, their NEW album 'At The Gate Of Sethu', and why he chooses to play DEAN Guitars!



 6) The Cavalera's: This year we had the chance to chat with Max Cavalera and his sons about the "Maximum Cavalera Tour", and how life on the road as a family has made them a stronger family. We also talked with them about Max's involvement in their son's musical careers and how he is making sure that they are learning the business with little to no guidance.




5) Steven Adler (ADLER, Ex-GUNS N ROSES): Prior to the kick off of the 2012 Revolver Gods Awards show, we had the chance to chat with Steven Adler (ex-Guns N Roses) about GNR's induction into the Rock N Roll hall of fame. We also asked band mates to tell us all about ADLER's NEW album.



4) Alex Skolnick (TESTAMENT): In anticipation of the release of TESTAMENT's NEW album 'The Dark Roots Of Earth', we had the chance to exclusively chat with him at the "meet and greet" that was hosted in New York City. Here is what went down!



3) Cristina Scabbia (LACUNA COIL): This year we had the chance to chat with Lacuna Coil's own Cristina Scabbia. During the conversation, we chatted with her about the bands involvement in these years Gigantour. We also discussed the bands NEWEST album 'Dark Adrenaline', and she even offered a handful of helpful tips for fellow artists.



2) Mina Caputo (Ex-LIFE OF AGONY): As most of you know, last year, Keith Caputo announced that he was a trans-gender person. After hearing this shocking news, the Heavy Music world immediately went awol and a few close minded LIFE OF AGONY fans and some members of the media, bashed Caputo's decision to "come out'. At that time we immediately asked the public to respect Caputo's decision, since we truly believe that he sent a very strong message to a genre of music that carries way too many stereotypes. Here is his very first interview following his decision to become Mina Caputo.



1) Mitch Lucker (SUICIDE SILENCE) - RIP: Prior to SUICIDE SILENCE's last New York City performance in front of 1000+ fans, we had the chance to chat with SUICIDE SILENCE's frontman Mitch Lucker. During the conversation, which you can watch below, we discussed the "All Stars Tour", the bands recipe for success and their upcoming NEW album! Unfortunately, this was one of the last interviews Mitch ever did!

You can now watch it below, courtesy of NoiseCreep.com. The clip was produced and directed by Jon Simvonis for Magnum Production Studios Co. and Arctos Broadcast Facilities. It also features the African Heritage group and photography by Philippos Kokkalis.

“It was truly an honor to direct the new NILE video; a band with so many diehard fans and such a strong impact in the Metal scene,” commented Simvonis. “The video concept, as a matter of fact,  was inspired by the culture and the ritual habits of the Ancient Nubia, a region along the Nile River, which is located in northern Sudan and Southern Egypt. The research and design elements of the video led to a really interesting combination of the Ancient Egyptian myths, through the prism of the Nubian African Voodoo Burial rituals. Two worlds set so close, yet so far from each other.”

SKELETONWITCH Stream NEW Song "Tragedy Of Days"; Band Continues Pillaging Stages!

Today Ohio Metal goliaths SKELETONWITCH are streaming a NEW song called "Tragedy of Days" at Prosthetic Records’ official bandcamp page. Never formally released on record in the States, the tune was recorded during the 'Forever Abomination' sessions with producer Matt Hyde and appeared on the Decibel Magazine Flexi-Disc series (Oct. 2011 issue) as well as the Japanese edition of 'Forever Abomination'.

Comments guitarist Scott Hedrick of the track: “’Tragedy of Days’ was an epic instrumental by [guitarist] Nate [Garnette]'s former band Serkesoron. They disbanded after the untimely passing of Serkesoron's  frontman, Thom Wright. Shortly after the band called it quits, SKELETONWITCH was born. We re-recorded the track and Chance [Garnette] added vocals as a tribute to Thom, immortalizing him in song."

In related news, the new vinyl reissues of the SKELETONWITCH's breakthrough releases 'Breathing The Fire' and 'Beyond The Permafrost' are now shipping from the Prosthetic Store. Both are available in three variants -- splatter, half-and-half and 180-gram black wax -- and feature gatefold Stoughton "tip-on" record jackets. The black vinyl versions of both albums will be available in select retail stores on April 10.

Additionally, the band recently unveiled a NEW video for the song “The Infernal Resurrection,” which comes off their The studio offering, 'Forever Abomination'.



SKELETONWITCH return to the last week with The Black Dahlia Murder, Nile and labelmates Hour Of Penance for a four-week tour that concludes at the New England Metal And Hardcore Festival.
