The Horns Up Rocks Top 12 Interviews Of 2012!

During 2012, Horns Up Rocks had the chance to interview dozens of artists about their various musical endeavors. While most of the interviews were very memorable, here are the 12 that caused the most impact within the Heavy Music scene. Here are the Horns Up Rocks Top 12 Interviews Of 2012! HERE is our Top 12 Records list!

12) Vinnie Paul (HELLYEAH, Ex-PANTERA): Earlier this year, the great folks over at Eleven Seven Music invited us to their headquarters to chat with HELLYEAH! While the scenario wasn't very Rock N' Roll, we were in a conference room, the HELLYEAH boys were very open to discuss anything we threw at them. During this segment, Vinnie Paul clears the air about a potential PANTERA reunion and he even pays tribute to PINK FLOYD! Check it out!

11) Danny Worsnop (ASKING ALEXANDRIA): Right before ASKING ALEXANDRIA opened the main stage one last time at this year's Mayhem Fest, we had the chance to chat with vocalist Danny Worsnop about the bands experience at the fest. We also discussed how he has managed to overcome his addiction to drugs and the bands future plans.

10) Matt Heafy (TRIVIUM): Prior to Matt Heafy's first ever acoustic performance, we had the chance to chat with Heafy about what fans can expect on the next TRIVIUM album and the bands recent festival performances in Europe and Canada. We also discussed his involvement with Moscot Music and TRIVIUM's musical philosophy.

9) Frank Mullen (SUFFOCATION): Prior to SUFFOCATION's crushing "Long Island Hall Of Fame" celebratory performance, we chatted with Frank Mullen (the bands front man and vocalist), and he shocked us with the news that he will not be touring full time with the band upon the release of their NEW album 'The Pinnacle of Bedlam' (set to be released in February/March of 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records) due to his current commitment with his full time job.

8) Jesse Leach (KILLSWITCH ENGAGE & THE EMPIRE SHALL FALL): If one had to point fingers at who is responsible for KSE's and TESF's musical direction, all fingers would be pointed at vocalist/lyricist Jesse Leach. Regardless of which band he is with, Leach always brings with him a bag full of tricks that are ever-changing. His energy on stage is addicting, and his vocal projection is always on point.

7) Karl Sanders (NILE):
During NILE's recent tour stop in New York City with THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, SKELETONWITCH and HOUR OF PENNANCE, we had the chance to sit down and chat with NILE's own Karl Sanders. During the conversation we discussed the bands legacy, their NEW album 'At The Gate Of Sethu', and why he chooses to play DEAN Guitars!

6) The Cavalera's: This year we had the chance to chat with Max Cavalera and his sons about the "Maximum Cavalera Tour", and how life on the road as a family has made them a stronger family. We also talked with them about Max's involvement in their son's musical careers and how he is making sure that they are learning the business with little to no guidance.

5) Steven Adler (ADLER, Ex-GUNS N ROSES): Prior to the kick off of the 2012 Revolver Gods Awards show, we had the chance to chat with Steven Adler (ex-Guns N Roses) about GNR's induction into the Rock N Roll hall of fame. We also asked band mates to tell us all about ADLER's NEW album.

4) Alex Skolnick (TESTAMENT):
In anticipation of the release of TESTAMENT's NEW album 'The Dark Roots Of Earth', we had the chance to exclusively chat with him at the "meet and greet" that was hosted in New York City. Here is what went down!

3) Cristina Scabbia
(LACUNA COIL):
This year we had the chance to chat with Lacuna Coil's own Cristina Scabbia. During the conversation, we chatted with her about the bands involvement in these years Gigantour. We also discussed the bands NEWEST album 'Dark Adrenaline', and she even offered a handful of helpful tips for fellow artists.

2) Mina Caputo (Ex-LIFE OF AGONY):
As most of you know, last year, Keith Caputo announced that he was a trans-gender person. After hearing this shocking news, the Heavy Music world immediately went awol and a few close minded LIFE OF AGONY fans and some members of the media, bashed Caputo's decision to "come out'. At that time we immediately asked the public to respect Caputo's decision, since we truly believe that he sent a very strong message to a genre of music that carries way too many stereotypes. Here is his very first interview following his decision to become Mina Caputo.

1) Mitch Lucker (SUICIDE SILENCE) - RIP:
Prior to SUICIDE SILENCE's last New York City performance in front of 1000+ fans, we had the chance to chat with SUICIDE SILENCE's frontman Mitch Lucker. During the conversation, which you can watch below, we discussed the "All Stars Tour", the bands recipe for success and their upcoming NEW album! Unfortunately, this was one of the last interviews Mitch ever did!

We want to thank all the people who made all these interviews possible, and of course all of you for checking them out! In 2013, we're bringing all sorts of surprises your way, so stay tuned! \m/

Joey Z's Method Of Groove Studio Destroyed By "FrankenSandy" - Statement Available!

Sandy the bitch strikes again! Earlier today Joey Z (LIFE OF AGONY) announced that his recording studio was destroyed during the horrible storm. Here is a statement from Joey regarding the demise of Method Of Groove Studio, and how he plans to continue making awesome records!

The Bad News:

"After years of hard work that went into the development and brand, Method of Groove Studio has been completely devastated and submerged due to Hurricane Sandy.  There is nothing left there.  The water level inside the building was believed to be as high as 8 feet.  Not only have I lost all the recording gear, I also lost all of my touring gear, dating back to the early 90’s… all of it.   I was able to enter the building yesterday after water levels receded down to a couple of feet."

The Good News:

"My family is ok. My friends are ok. My home is ok. I will continue this path of producing and touring. I’ve recorded many bands in other studios before, whether it was America, Europe or Canada, and mixed them back here in NY. My mixing / mastering studio was not harmed since it is in a completely different location. I spoke with my management team, and we are confident with plans moving forward to record clients out of other studios. I have so many great friends both inside and outside the music industry, and feel blessed. I am going to leave the website up and running, and maybe alter it a bit over time. Contacting me for recording, mixing or mastering is still the same, (sans the studio telephone line). For all those who already have been helping and have sent their love and support, I thank you so much. I shot some video yesterday with hope for government, and/or insurance relief, which can be seen below."

LIFE OF AGONY's Joey Z Unleashes NEW Website For Method Of Groove Studio!

While on tour with LIFE OF AGONY in 2005, Joey Z had the vision of owning his own pro studio; A place where he can continue to build the other side of his career, and stay creative in between touring… Very soon after, he got to work. The studio opened in February 2006, and since, has become one of the prime spots in New York State to record. The atmosphere has been described as inspirational, magical, and comfortable. Professionally treated, the studios acoustics definitely deliver, and the proof is in all of the great recordings that have come out of here. Over the years the studio has continued to add stellar equipment to its arsenal. Most recent additions include, a vintage Amek recording console, Aurora converters, and a Neve summing mixer. The sound is phenomenal.  There are also two lounges where you can spread out a bit, and a kitchen, complete with everything you would need. Most of all, whether you are a touring professional, or local weekend warrior, you will get the full experience of a top-notch recording studio, and your final product will sound accordingly.

Here is a statement from Joey Z regarding MOG's brand NEW website:

"I'm proud to announce, and reveal, the NEW Method of Groove Studio website. The designer, Anthony Kondyra dedicated many weeks to this over-haul and I couldn't be happier with the results. The addition I'm most excited about is the Artist Vault... Inside you'll find individual pages on all the bands I worked with, complete with samples of music we recorded, video, photos, & bios. Any band that records with me from here on, will have a page in the Vault. It's a vision I had for years. There's also a blog that I will be personally posting news, recording tips, gear recommendations, and basically all studio/Joey Z stuff."

Please take a minute and check out the site right now, right here: www.methodofgroovestudio.com

Former LIFE OF AGONY Singer Mina Caputo Premieres Music Video For "Silver Candy"

Mina Caputo, formerly known as Keith Caputo, has had a an extensive career within the music industry. While you all know him from his work with legendary New York Metallers LIFE OF AGONY, Caputo is constantly pushing the limits of his successful life as an artist. As we all know, LIFE OF AGONY is not an active band at the moment, and the chances of the band returning to the musical spectrum are very unlikely. But this does not mean that Caputo is done creating awesome music.

Today, Mina Caputo is presenting the world his brand NEW video for his song "Silver Candy". The clip was directed and produced by Dan Quigley, also known as Dan Beast. You can watch the video below.

This simple, "sober" take on such a gorgeous song from Caputo's 2008 record, "A Fondness for Hometown Scars", was filmed in glorious 1080p HD quality in less than a day.

As most of you know, last year, Caputo announced that he was a trans-gender person.

Recently, we were able to chat with Caputo about the importance of human equality, and of course about the impact of LIFE OF AGONY in Caputo's life. This interview is NOT to be missed, so check it out and spread the word!

Keith Caputo Sex Change? Life Of Agony over? Know the facts!

Apparently various media outlets out there want to misinform the public just so they can get attract eyeballs. While this is nothing new in the media world, here at Horns Up Rocks we believe in checking your sources before writing anything at all, since we believe in responsible journalism.

First of all, we have confirmation from many sources close to the band that Keith Caputo, singer from Life Of Agony, did NOT get a sex change. Yes he likes dressing like a women, and yes he likes putting make up on. But so did Dennis Rodman! And did he get a sex change? We think not! In case you don't know, transsexualism is an individual's identification with a gender inconsistent or not culturally associated with their biological sex. It has NOTHING to do with undergoing a sex change operation!

Here is a Twit by Keith Caputo that helped create this ridiculous rumor:

"M2F transexuals like mê are the women who give up male privilege for femininity! Threaten the patriarchy!" (July 7 at 11:34 PM)

But then a few days later Caputo twitted this:

"Dying to make love to my lady. Haven't seen her in 2 months. Dying to hold her & be held. Never letting her go. Just a few more days. The Art Of Love!" (July 12 at 1:36 AM)

Second of all, when we interviewed Life Of Agony's guitarist Joey Zampella earlier this year (video interview below), he told us that they have been talking about writing some new songs but that they will do it when the time is right since all of the band members are busy with other projects. Again, it was a Twit by Caputo that caused the rumor that the band is calling it a day:

"Off to Europe tomorrow, 7pm. Most likely our last..." (July 12 at 11:49 AM)

Life Of Agony will be performing in Europe this weekend!

- 7/15: Kantine in Augsburg, DE
- 7/16: Dour Festival in Dour, BE
- 7/17: Zwarte Cross Festival in Lichtenvoorde, NL

Aren't rock-stars suppose to be outrageous, wild, and say things that cause controversy? In the wise words of Max Cavalera: DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ!

A Pale Horse Named Death Listening Party at Idle Hands Bar

On Thursday, May 25, our friends at Idle Hands Bar bring you the Official A Pale Horse Named Death listening party for their brand new album titled "And Hell Will Follow Me". Not only will the music be cranked and the drink specials will be poured to the masses, but the bands founder and front-man Mr. Sal Abruscato (Life of Agony) will be there to meet his fans. Here is the Official press release:

"A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH's debut album "And Hell Will Follow Me" is set to be released June 14th on SPV/Steamhammer. To celebrate the release of the album, the band will be hosting an exclusive listening party at Idle Hands Bar in New York, NY. Idle Hands is located at 25 Avenue B. The party is open to the public and members of APHND will of course be in attendance. Don't miss what is sure to be a killer event with drink specials and your chance to hear the new album before it hits stores."

Here is the artist bio:

"A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH is the brainchild of Brooklyn, NY native Sal Abruscato, and sounds like Alice in Chains mysteriously sneaking up behind Type O Negative with a butcher knife while being filmed for a future episode of "Law & Order". Critical acclaim has been quick upon the announcement of the album's June release.

Sal's partner in crime on "And Hell Will Follow Me" is Matt Brown, sound engineer extraordinaire and guitarist of fellow NY band SEVENTH VOID. "The chemistry between me and Matt is unique and flawless very rare in today's music. We are the murdering evil version of Lennon and McCartney." says Abruscato.

Brown adds, "Sal asked me if I would help to take these songs to the next level. I took on this project for my friend, to find some closure in rough times. The music is just an extension of our friendship and our passion for creativity."

The album artwork was done by Sam Shearon aka Mr. Sam, who has previously done work for Rob Zombie, Fear Factory and Cradle of Filth to name a few, and features a 20 page booklet with artwork for each individual song. Additionally, the Double LP version will feature a never before heard bonus track called "Pick Up Truck".

To top that all off, Life of Agony's Keith Caputo lent background vocals to four tracks and Lou Reed's saxophonist Ulrich Krieger guests on "Die Alone". Bobby Hambel from Biohazard - who also plays with the band live - played the guitar leads on three tunes.

APHND is also a force to be reckoned with live, with shows and festivals already planned in both the U.S. and Europe. Alongside Sal, Matt and Bobby, the live line-up places Type O and Seventh Void drummer Johnny Kelly behind the kit, and Eric Morgan on bass.

"This is my pinnacle creation, the best album I have ever done." commented Sal. And after listening, most people are tending to agree."

The Impact Of Life Of Agony (Starring: Joey Z)

After working on their craft for over 20 years, it can be said that Life Of Agony are living legends and that their status as a cult band is not in vain. Through their original music and their mission to be the best they can be every time they step on stage, the band has inspired many musicians to pick up an instrument and start creating some epic music. Life Of Agony is a proud member of the New York Hardcore community, and along with Type O Negative and Biohazard, they have become synonymous to the New York City underground music scene. Today, all three bands can be pointed at for being a key asset of the revitalization of the New York City Heavy Music underground scene.

Recently, the band Misery held their CD listening party for their latest album titled “Evil Is Crowned” at Duff’s Brooklyn. You may be asking yourself what this has to do with Life Of Agony. Well, the album was produced by Life Of Agony’s legendary guitarist Joey Zampella, most commonly known as Joey Z. As we all know Life Of Agony hasn’t been fully active in the recent past, but this does not mean that they haven’t been busy contributing their craft to the music scene. Joey did an excellent job with Misery’s latest album by making sure everything was meticulously crafted, just how he does with everything he does with Life Of Agony (Joey serves as Tour Manager).

We obviously had to talk to Joey about his role as a producer, and how working with other musicians has helped him keep his music career right on path. Needless to say, we talked about the legacy of Life Of Agony and what the near future holds for the band who were recently part of a special on MTV2's Headbangers Ball and also played a few shows in the New York area in front of hundreds of fans that were mesmerized by the power behind Life Of Agony!

Without further due, here is the exclusive video interview we did with Joey Z at Duff’s Brooklyn on the day of our 1 Year Anniversary. We want to thank Joey, Jimmy Duff, Sage Thyme, Jay Sanchez and you for reading this! \m/

Misery: Evil Is Crowned

At present time the Heavy Music scene in the tri-state area is going through a revitalizing process, in which we are starting to see more and more bands stepping up their game and getting away from a set formula. One of those bands is Misery, a band that after 10 years of hard work, is finally starting to get the recognition they deserve. With the release of their new album titled "Evil Is Crowned", produced by Joey Z from Life Of Agony, the band has evolved into a hard-hitting powerhouse.

When we arrived at Duff's Brooklyn to their Official listening party, we immediately felt the groove and our ear drums reacted to their furious blend of Heavy Metal and Hardcore by demanding "more volume"! The crowd's reaction was positive to songs like "Evil Is Crowned" and "I Hate Your Face", some were even bobbling their heads in approval.

When we asked their producer Joey Z how he got involved with Misery, this is what he to say: "The guys brought me a recording they had done somewhere else and were looking for a way to fix it. After listening to the recording, I knew they had a lot of potential but needed a producer that could help them achieve their goals. After seeing them perform live and realizing how tight they are, I offered to be their producer."

Recorded at System Two Studios Brooklyn, which is the same studio where Life Of Agony's classic album "River Runs Red" was recorded. "Evil Is Crowned" is an album that will take Misery to a new level; many are weighing them in as the next band from the New York area to become part of the elite. After their successful tour with Devildriver, they have already been asked to be part of another national tour. We have an EXCLUSIVE interview coming soon, so stay tuned!
