MEGADETH Kicks Off The "Countdown To Extinction" Tour In Colombia & Mustaine Says: "Bogota completely kicked the entire globe's butt last night" - Video Available!

Yesterday (Sunday, September 2), MEGADETH kicked off the "Countdown To Extinction" 20th-anniversary tour at Royal Center in Bogotá, Colombia. Here is what the bands frontman Dave Mustaine had to say about this:

"Last night when we got to the venue, there was complete pandemonium. All of our crew was scrambling; the local production were moving like they were all on Quaaludes; and there was still the underlying fact that we had never played a large portion of the evening's songs live…ever! But when we left, our driver (who seemed to not know where he was going — or doing, for that matter), drove us past all of the fans in a van with clear windows, and excluding the safety hazard for our Droogies [MEGADETH fans] that ran out into the street to greet us, we noticed that the line from the front door went around the entire block and overlapped itself at the front door.

"There was definitely going to be volcanic activity tonight!

"We raced back to the hotel to make any last minute preparations, and headed back to the venue and our support band was playing — Patricio Stiglich — and this kid absolutely smoked! He reminded me of Eric Johnson, but with grit! I listened to him play as I went over the lyrics for the NEW songs with our NEW personal assistant Aly (from Austin…yea!), and I got dressed as usual. I had no idea what we were in store for.

"When we took the stage, the place erupted. Of course, you know I was going to say that, but it really did, and it got better and better as we went along.

"Now, please understand something: from the first time we went down to my beloved Argentina, no one, and I mean no one around the globe could touch them. Then, of course, the great people of Chile (our friend Tom Araya is Chilean) was not going to accept the Argies being number one and they have gone back and forth over the years, but it was the fans of Buenos Aires that coined 'Aguante Megadeth,' which can be heard at MEGADETH shows around the world, and is a subtle reminder wherever we play of their love for us.

"Last night however, the baton was passed.

"I'm not saying that it is going to stay that way, because I know the competitive nature of the silvery people from Buenos Aires, but Bogota completely kicked the entire globe's butt last night… without a doubt… no argument! And the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life happened during the performance of our double platinum album 'Countdown To Extinction'. The audience had organized and worked out amongst themselves that during the song 'Countdown To Extinction' they would all hold up a paper sign of the old man from the record cover. It was by far the most amazing thing I have ever seen in all my years.

"I don't know what the rest of this tour down south has in store for us, but if last night was any indication, Christmas came early for this kid in 2012!"

Video footage of the "Countdown To Extinction" performance in Bogota, Colombia can be seen below.

The setlist was as follows:

01. Trust
02. Hangar 18

Live Footage of Testament in Santiago, Chile!

Whenever we ask an artist which region of the world has the most dedicated and diehard headbangers, they all agree that South America takes the prize for the most raging crowds. As a result, during the last decade more and more bands have been visiting South America to experience the soccer-like chants, the adrenaline of a fully packed stadium, and to make sure all attendees leave with a smile in their face and ready to keep on grinding in a region of the world which never stops struggling.

Legendary San Francisco Thrash Metallers Testament have been working on their 10th studio album titled "The Dark Roots of Earth" (to be released in February 2012 via Nuclear Blast), recently headed over to South America and played one of the best shows of their career in Santiago, Chile. Fortunately, the show was recorded and now you can watch Testament doing what they do best: performing a furious set in front of a pack of hungry headbangers! Check it out!

Devildriver's Guitarist to Miss South American Tour After Suffering Seizure

A few days before Devildriver embarked on their first South American tour, guitarist Mike Sprietzer suffered a seizure while shopping at a Ride Aid in California. Fortunately, after his doctors ran a series of tests it was determined that it was an isolated incident but that Sprietzer should stay home and rest. The band has decided to do the tour as a four piece since they didn't want to miss such a huge opportunity for them. Here is what Dez Fafara (Devildriver's frontman) Twitter about the situation:

"(Guitarist) Mike Sprietzer, has had a seizure and woke up in the emergency room. He is doing well. We are still coming just with One guitar player."

"Mike just text from the hospital and told us to GO! We've never done shows with one guitar player but don't want to let our fans down!"

This is what guitarist Mike Spreitzer of California had to say about the situation:

"Hey everybody. Thank you all so much for your concern. It means so much to me. I'm doing okay and I'm back home.

"I'm not sure why, but I had a seizure in a Rite Aid while I was picking up a few last-minute items for our South American tour. I collapsed and hit my head fairly hard. But the good news is all the tests results and CAT scan came back negative. So I've been ordered to rest and stay home. I'll be up and running for the next tour with ARCH ENEMY.

"I'm so upset that I can't go to South America. I was so excited.

"Thanks again for your concern and I love you all."

Since the band didn't have enough time to have Spreitzer replaced for this tour, Jeff Kendrick will be the sole guitarist. The six-date tour of South America and Mexico kicks off tomorrow (Wednesday, August 10) at Teatro Flores in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Here are all the tour dates.

Wednesday, August 10th 2011 - Buenos Aires, Argentina (Teatro Flores)
Thursday, August 11th 2011 - Santiago, Chile (Teatro Teleton)
Saturday, August 13th 2011 - Sao Paulo, Brazil (Carioca Club)
Sunday, August 14th 2011 - Curitba, Brazil (Music Hall)
Tuesday, August 16th 2011 - Bogota, Colombia (Teatro Metro)
Thursday, August 18th 2011 - Mexico City, Mexico (Circo Volador)

It has been a rough year for Devildriver. About a month ago bassist Aaron "Bubble" Patrick (ex-Bury Your Dead) suffered a back injury but was able to recover in time for the Heavy T.O. and Heavy MTL festivals in Toronto, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec, Canada, respectively. Bubble replaced former bassist Jonathan Miller, who quit the band in March. Click here to read about this.

- Facts about "Beast":

\m/ Devildriver's fifth album, released on February 22, 2011 via Roadrunner Records
\m/ Sold over 11,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 42 on The Billboard 200 chart.

We wish Mike a speedy recovery! \m/

Well, all I'll say is that these dates are going to be one hell of a monster unleashed on the crowds in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. No one will be left standing at the end of the night!" - Robb Flynn "Machine Head"

"We are all looking forward to touring with Machine Head in South America. It was an idea that we have had for some time and it will be a great pleasure to share the stage with them. This is a show that cannot be missed by anyone." - Derrick Green (Sepultura)
