CARCASS Offer Fans A NEW Album Update For 'Surgical Steel'!

Recently CARCASS announced that their next sonic assault will be called 'Surgical Steel' and
should see the light of day later this year via an as-yet-undetermined record label. 'Surgical Steel' will be the bands first studio album in 17 years.

The band has announced that Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ACCEPT, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY) will mix their highly anticipated comeback album, after Colin Richardson (FEAR FACTORY, MACHINE HEAD, NAPALM DEATH, SLIPKNOT, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE) quit the project two weeks into the mixing process because he was "burned out".

CARCASS bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker had this to say about Richardson's decision to quit mixing 'Surgical Steel': "He quit yesterday. He was two weeks into mixing the album and he decided that he didn't want to continue. So Andy Sneap is taking over. [Colin's] produced the album. It's just that he's hit a brick wall with the mix and doesn't want to continue. And so we're bringing in Andy Sneap to do the mix now. It's a shame, but we finished recording the album three months ago. There are a lot of reasons for it, but the main reason is that he says he is burnt out. I guess it will be a positive thing to bring in some fresh ears."

The band’s first studio outing since 1996′s 'Swansong' will be the first to feature NEW drummer Dan Wilding (ABORTED, TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED) and also features guest vocals from original sticksman Ken Owen.

Here are the songs that the band record:

* The Master Butcher’s Apron
* The Granulating Dark Satanic Mills
* A Congealed Clot Of Blood
* A Wraith In The Apparatus
* 316l Grade Surgical Steel
* Cadaver Pouch Conveyor System
* Captive Bolt Pistol
* Intensive Battery Brooding
* None Compliance To Astm F899-12 Standard
* Mount Of Execution
* 1985/Thrasher’s Abattoir
* Unfit For Human Consumption
* Zochrot
* Livestock Marketplace

Guitarist Michael Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson, who have been touring with CARCASS since the band’s reunion was announced in 2007, are no longer involved with the group due to scheduling conflicts with their main band, ARCH ENEMY. “For live, we’ll obviously add another guitarist — we have someone in mind but we are not interested in a ‘name’ player,” Walker told Decibel magazine in December.

CARCASS Reveal NEW Album Title & Song Names!

Last year, CARCASS announced that are reuniting and bringing the Heavy Music world a NEW batch of music. The bands next sonic assault will be called 'Surgical Steel' and it will be the bands first studio album in 17 years. This highly anticipated release will see the light of day later this year via an as-yet-undetermined record label.

The band’s first studio outing since 1996′s 'Swansong' will be the first to feature NEW drummer Dan Wilding (ABORTED, TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED) and also features guest vocals from original sticksman Ken Owen. The CD was produced by Colin Richardson (FEAR FACTORY, MACHINE HEAD, NAPALM DEATH, SLIPKNOT and BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE).

The bands guitarist Bill Steer told U.K.’s Terrorizer magazine: “I found myself playing riffs that sounded like CARCASS. This was after the band had finished the whole reunion cycle of shows and festivals. So, officially, I would have been playing with other bands and stuff, but for some reason whenever I picked up a guitar at home I was coming up with riffs that sounded like CARCASS. I got on the phone to Jeff [Walker, bass/vocals] and said, ‘We could have a crack at writing a couple of tunes and seeing if they’re strong enough and take it from there.’ We also agreed if it didn’t sound like carcass or have that kind of vibe to it, we would just drop it. So that was the thing, we got together and started working on some stuff and just immediately got the excitement back very quickly.

“It definitely sounds like CARCASS. I think we just generally by accident captured the flavor of past music that we have done and you can’t help but push it forward. We have really been creative and when you are looking at things like guitar harmonies, it’s way more adventurous on this record. It’s not just parallel harmony like we did in the past, things branch off in different directions.

“A lot of what is happening now is based on rhythms rather than actual riffs. We were discussing this a lot during record sessions about how the riff is almost dying or dead already. People spend a lot of time chugging on the bottom string [but] that’s a rhythm, it’s not a riff. We can’t write a song, never mind an album, without it being choc-full of riffs.”

To this Jeff Walker added: “I’d like to feel like we are giving CARCASS fans what they want again. I’m a realist and I think Bill has realized and Dan know what people like about CARCASS. We’re definitely delivering.”

Here are the songs that the band record:

* The Master Butcher’s Apron
* The Granulating Dark Satanic Mills
* A Congealed Clot Of Blood
* A Wraith In The Apparatus
* 316l Grade Surgical Steel
* Cadaver Pouch Conveyor System
* Captive Bolt Pistol
* Intensive Battery Brooding
* None Compliance To Astm F899-12 Standard
* Mount Of Execution
* 1985/Thrasher’s Abattoir
* Unfit For Human Consumption
* Zochrot
* Livestock Marketplace

DOWN IV 'The Purple EP' Available For Streaming Now!

On September 18, 2012, the beast will be unleashed as "Down IV Part I - The Purple EP" (DOWN's first in a series of four EPs to be released over the next few years - with a year between EPs) will be presented to the masses! Today, the entire EP can be streamed below, thanks to Billboard.com.

Here is what Philip Anselmo said about the NEW DOWN EP during an interview with Full Metal Jackie:

"Well really it took a lot of pressure off of any and all of us. When this question comes up I refer to the first demo we did in 1992 when we all flew into Texas with this idea in our heads and we had really no idea what was going come out of it. I had no lyrics, everything was just right on the spot and I think we came out with ‘Bury Me in Smoke,’ ‘Temptation’s Wings’ and ‘Losing All,’ which would be on the first record.

"We took this approach with this record and honestly I have never in my life taken so much pressure off of myself to do a record. We didn’t know what we were thinking and the fact that it is six songs, I think that commanded all of our attention at the time and really to do a 10 or 12 song record – there’s no room at this point in my career at all for what would be called filler. I don’t want any filler, I want the songs to be direct, I want them to be unique and I think we did pretty well with this EP.
You’ve had a pretty prolific career with eight plus bands."

As previously reported, DOWN is scheduled to release four EP's dubbed as 'Down IV' throughout the next four years. During a recent interview the bands riff meister Kirk Windstein announced that the first EP, which contains six songs, should be out this summer! This is what Anselmo had to say about this:

"That's the idea right now, but I think that after you work on a body of music, you need to reload, you need to refresh, you need to clear your head. Get that, digest it, get it out of your system, and then decide what direction you're going to go. It's a good idea and I think we should see it through. But there's no way we can rush it. Because I think if it is a series of four, each one should be unique, and that… We've shown flexibility — we have songs like 'Bury Me In Smoke' and then we have songs like 'Stone The Crow'… acoustic pieces and what-not… We have all that. So we've touched on many, I guess, dynamics, so… I would expect each EP to have its own life."

Down's NEW EP will feature the following songs in no particular order:

- 'Levitation'
- 'Witchtripper'
- 'The Misfortune Teller'
- 'The Curse Is A Lie'
- 'Open Coffins'
- 'This Work Is Timeless'

CROWBAR & DOWN's Kirk Windstein Comments On The Passing Of "Obamacare"!

Today, the Supreme Court in a landmark ruling, upheld President Obama's health care overhaul, including the controversial requirement that most Americans have health insurance.

The court handed Obama a campaign-season victory in rejecting arguments that Congress went too far in requiring Americans to have health insurance or pay a penalty.

Chief Justice John Roberts announced the court's judgment that allows the law to go forward with its aim of covering more than 30 million uninsured Americans. Click here to read more about this breaking story!

Here is what Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Down & Kingdom Of Sorrow) had to say about this:

"IF I CAN'T AFFORD HEALTH INSURANCE NOW, BECAUSE UNLIKE HALF OF THE COUNTRY, I ACTUALLY PAY TAXES, HOW IN THE HELL WILL I BE ABLE TO AFFORD IT THEN? WHERE'S MY GOVERNMENT HANDOUT? THIS COUNTRY IS FUCKED!!!"

As previously reported, NOLA's supergroup DOWN is scheduled to release four EP's dubbed as 'Down IV' throughout the next four years. During a recent interview the bands riff meister Kirk Windstein announced that the first EP, which contains six songs, should be out this summer!

“They’re kind of a throwback to what we were doing at the very beginning, on the NOLA record (Down’s 1995 platinum debut). I think the fans are going to love it. Windstein names "Misfortune Teller" as one of his favorite tunes from the upcoming EP.

Down's NEW EP will feature the following songs in no particular order:

- 'Levitation'
- 'Witchtripper'
- 'The Misfortune Teller'
- 'The Curse Is A Lie'
- 'Open Coffins'
- 'This Work Is Timeless'

Philip Anselmo Talks About His First "Band" & The Legacy Of SABBATH!

Right now, you can purchase the massive 172-page Metal Hammer Black Sabbath tribute issue! On this very special issue the great folks at Metal Hammer spoke with some of Metal’s biggest names about the influence of the Godfathers of Heavy Music – including Metallica, Slayer, Zakk Wylde, Slash, Behemoth and many more! Here’s what Philip Anselmo from Down (ex-Pantera) had to say:

“You know what’s strange? I remember being a very young boy, like still riding in the car with mom and shit, before they had seatbelt laws, kids riding in the back and all that crap in the 70s, and the local radio in New Orleans would play 'Am I Going Insane'. And I loved it. I loved that fucking song because I was a kid, and it stuck inside my head. I was living in the neighborhood in New Orleans, where I didn’t know that many kids around me and all my friends were several blocks away. And not all of them were chasing music as much as I was. And I was getting into the Iron Maidens and shit like that, and I had an Iron Maiden shirt, which at the time was kind of unique in my neighborhood. I guess I’m talking about ‘83. Finally I was out and about one day in the neighborhood and I saw this other kid wearing an Iron Maiden shirt, so I walked directly up to him and I was like, “Man, you like Iron Maiden?” and he’s like, “Oh yeah!” Anyway, this dude was a drummer and I was a singer. We were little kids talking about being in a band and all this shit. He ended up being the first drummer in my first garage band. And he had been a Heavy Metal collector. He was like a year older than me, so he had like a year’s worth of chasing music on me, so we went back to his house and listened to music, music, music, music. And that was obviously one of the first times that I heard the ominous-sounding Black Sabbath that we all know and love. That is definitely one of those memories – sitting in his bedroom, smoking terrible marijuana that didn’t really work at all, and listening to Black Sabbath. But I’ll never forget the day he came home with the Sabotage record, he called me up and said, “Dude, you gotta get over here right now. You gotta get over here. You thought you’d heard all the best Black Sabbath but just wait!” and we fucking listened to that Sabotage record and it just smoked us, man. It left such a fucking impact."

“In ‘96 I flew out and jammed with Iommi in the studio, when he was doing his solo record, with a lot of guest artists, and we had an incredible, productive session. Basically I was just handed a bunch of Tony Iommi riffs, while he sat back. You know this is kind of humorous, but I think he has a good enough sense of humor that if he reads this article he might chuckle… but his big ass was sitting there eating trays of sushi and sipping white wine, while I’m sitting there putting his damn riffs together! It was awesome. He was always like, “You go there, Phil!” with a big smile on his face. We were working with this engineer guy named Bob Marlette, and Bob would wear these baggy-ass fucking sweat pants in the studio, and Tony Iommi would sneak up behind him and de-pants him, it was fucking hilarious! And we came up with three songs in three days, man. I’ve known those guys for at least eighteen years or longer, and we were always the band that played right before Ozzy or right before Black Sabbath. Bless his heart, ol’ Osbourne used to go out there and do a set of Ozzy, then come back out and do a set of Black Sabbath – that hard-working, bad-ass motherfucker. Unbelievable. So we were very integrated with these guys, and they have always, always, always been the sweetest group of individuals. And not only that, I cannot leave out the fact that with Pantera and Down, I did shows with the Dio incarnation of Black Sabbath. Ronnie James Dio as a person and as a singer… when you listen to that motherfucker on stage, I don’t know if I’ve ever heard anybody more powerful. There’s something about Dio that was just fucking monstrous, almost inhuman, night after night. But on a personal level – Geezer, Tony, Ozzy, Dio, Bill Ward, Vinny Appice… they’re all just the sweetest, most encouraging, taking-you-under-the-wing-type guys you could come across, man. Just always delightful. After they got to know me and knew how much I loved them them, they presented me with a gold 'Sabotage' framed record and a framed platinum 'Paranoid' record. I still have ‘em hanging up on the wall in my house. Those are prized possessions, man. That’s like dreamworld shit. Only a fool would leave out what Black Sabbath brought to the Heavy Metal genre.”

We feel ya on that. Find out who else has their say on Black Sabbath in the amazing new issue, out now and featuring a free CD and Download posters!

As previously reported, NOLA's supergroup DOWN is scheduled to release four EP's dubbed as 'Down IV' throughout the next four years. During a recent interview the bands riff meister Kirk Windstein announced that the first EP, which contains six songs, should be out this summer!

Philip Anselmo Talks About 'Vulgar Display Of Power', DOWN IV & Solo Album!

Philip Anselmo is a non stop music machine. When he is not busy with his supergroup DOWN, he is taking care of business at Housecore Records (Anselmo's label). Somehow, he also has time to create NEW music via his various side projects. Recently,  Loudwire.com chatted with PANTERA's frontman to talk about the 20th anniversary reissue of 'Vulgar Display Of Power' (available now), as well as the new series of EP's by DOWN. He also broke the news about his NEW solo project. Here are some excerpts of the interview.

“We just finished an EP, yes,” Anselmo told Loudwire.” That is done. It’s mastered, done, finished. I’m waiting on Pepper [Keenan's] artwork so I can take a good look at that. We’ll be doing a short [tour] run … this month. 10 days out in tertiary markets, to get our sea legs under us, so we can be ready for touring this fall. Expect that record no later mid-summer or early, early, early fall at the f—ing latest.”

He acknowledged that reports on a series of DOWN EPs “is a bunch of talk and f—ing ideas. They are good ideas, nonetheless. DOWN, the way I describe it, it is a genre band. When you are in a genre band, there are rules. There are borders you cannot cross. You have to be true to the genre itself. It is a subgenre within a subgenre within a subgenre. Southern Black Sabbath slash doom slash a million different things but it’s really one thing. As for the EPs, the other material, we’ve spoken about, this, that, the other, but as far as sitting down and doing it, we only have one in the can.”

About his solo album: “My solo record is recorded and has one more mix to go,” he said. The project will be called, simply, Philip H. Anselmo, and the album title is ‘Walk Through Exits Only'. It is the most deadly motherf—ing thing I have done. I cannot wait for people to hear it. If you like what I do or what I have done, this might be on of your up and coming favorites. I found a guitar player that is just out of his mind. I’ve actually known him for a long time, as long as Dime. Dime gave his respect to him, as well, and he is a great, sweet guy.”

Down's NEW EP will feature the following songs in no particular order:

- 'Levitation'
- 'Witchtripper'
- 'The Misfortune Teller'
- 'The Curse Is A Lie'
- 'Open Coffins'
- 'This Work Is Timeless'
