Amy Winehouse Dead at 27
Pop diva Amy Winehouse was found dead at her home in London on Saturday afternoon. According to various news outlets paramedics were called at around 4 PM, but when they arrived Winehouse was already dead. The cause of death is yet to be determined.
The 27 year old artist had recently canceled her European Tour after a horrible performance in the Serbian capital of Belgrade in which she was booed off the stage after arriving late to the show and stumbling all over the place.
Winehouse has been famous for her addictions and erratic behavior since she released "Back to Black" in 2006, which established her as a worldwide phenomenon. Winehouse will always be remembered for being a tough, no-nonsense R&B singer with a '60s-inspired vintage vibe.
In 2008 Winehouse became a Grammy Award winner, and took home the awards for song and record of the year for "Rehab." Winehouse was also named best new artist at the ceremony. Prior to the ceremony, Winehouse had entered a rehabilitation facility and was denied a U.S. visa. As a result, she ended up performing on the live Grammy telecast via satellite from London.
In 2009 Winehouse was scheduled to headline the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival but had to cancel her performance after she was charged with assault for attacking a fan week before the festival.
Regardless of her antics and her addictions, Amy Winehouse will always be remembered for being a stellar artist that influenced millions of people worldwide! This is a tragic loss for the entire music community, and we hope that Amy Winehouse finally gets to Rest In Peace!

Corey Taylor In-depth Interview about his New Book "Seven Deadly Sins" with That Metal Show's Jim Florentine
The very outspoken Corey Taylor from Slipknot and Stone Sour decided that instead of writing an autobiography like everyone else does, he would write something very different. This is what he had to say about this:
“I’ve been threatening to write a book for a long time, but since every Tom, Dick and Harry writes an autobiography, I didn’t want to just do that. My approach to writing is the same as my approach to music: I don’t want to do what everybody else is doing.”
“Seven Deadly Sins” is Taylor’s candid, outrageous manifesto reflecting on the subject and nature of sin. The book will was released on July 12 in the U.S and July 14 in the U.K.
Our good friend Jim Florentine from VH1 Classic's That Metal Show, conducted an in depth interview with Taylor about his upcoming book "Seven Deadly Sins", his life and of course, his music. Check out the entire interview:

Cavalera Conspiracy & Soulfly Guitarist Marc Rizzo Shreds at Wake Up Fest
New Jersey native Marc Rizzo became Max Cavalera's musical ally in October of 2003 when he joined Soulfly to record "Prophecy". Ever since then Max and Marc have developed a signature sound that is recognized by thousands of fans worldwide. Marc is also the co-founder of Cavalera Conspiracy, the band that reunited Brazilian Heavy Music brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera. What really made the difference between Rizzo and former Soulfly guitarists is that he not only has phenomenal guitar skills, but he works very hard on making sure that his guitar sound blends in perfectly with Max's ever-changing vision.
During the version of "Wake Up Fest" at Dingbatz in New Jersey, Marc Rizzo and his solo band performed in front of a crowd that showed up to support and celebrate the 41st birthday of Chi Cheng, former deftones bassists who has been in a coma ever since he suffered from a terrible car accident in November of 2008. Through this act of humbleness Rizzo demonstrated why he is one of the best guitarists in Heavy Music today. We had the chance to interview Rizzo about his musical career and about the influence that Chi Cheng has had in the entire Heavy Music scene. We were also able to capture Rizzo doing what he does best: shredding like there is no tomorrow. Check it out!
Here is Marc Rizzo's impressive discography:

Immolation Releases New Video for "A Glorious Epoch"
In March of 2010, New York Death Metal outfit Immolation released their eighth studio album titled "Majesty and Decay" via Nuclear Blast Records. The album was recorded in Millbrook Sound Studios in New York and produced by Paul Orofino. Mixing duties were handled by Zack Ohren who has previously worked with Decrepit Birth, Suffocation and All Shall Perish. In its first week "Majesty and Decay" sold 1,400 copies in the US, which landed it position No. 29 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart on Billboard.
"10 songs [plus two intros] of the strongest material we have ever written. The new material is more violent and aggressive, with fast sections that take us to a new level of speed and intensity, while complementing the dark and sullen heavier moments. There are plenty of miserable and militant movements to please the diehard and new IMMOLATION fans alike." - Immolation
Their new video for their song "A Golorious Epoch" (which you can view below), was produced by Tommy Jones from the Studio in New Jersey.
Immolation is:
- Ross Dolan - Bass, Vocals
- Robert Vigna - Guitars
- Bill Taylor - Guitars
- Steve Shalaty - Drums

Devin Townsend's Career and Creative Process
This past Saturday (July 16), we had the honor and privilege of interviewing Canadian music genius Devin Townsend about his extensive career in the music industry, and about the creative process he undergoes when creating music. During the conversation (which you can view below), Devin makes it very clear that he never plans out what he is going to do musically on or off stage, instead he prefers to let the music take over his thought process and as a result the sounds are very organic.
As we all know, he is one of the pioneers of "Progressive Metal", but when we chatted with him he made it clear that his music is always evolving because he is a multidimensional artist. On Saturday's show he presented his latest albums "Ghost" and "Deconstruction", his new songs were well received and the only complain all of his fans had was that his set was way too short. However, he did announce that he will be touring North America again in a few months and that this time he will be headlining!
Without further due, here is our exclusive interview with Devin Townsend!
Special thanks to Devin Townsend, Nikki Law at Century Media, and Steve Lars!

Paul Booth presents "The Grand Reincarnation"
Paul Booth decided it was time to renovate his office of dark arts known as "Last Rites & Tattoo Theatre" because he wanted to push his artistic abilities to the next level, and to make his tattoo shop/gallery/theatre even more twisted and demented. "The Grand Reincarnation" will be taking place on July 22nd, 23rd and 24th at 511 West 33rd Street (3rd Floor) in New York City.
Here is the rundown of the events that will take place this weekend at Paul Booth's "Last Rites & Tattoo Theatre".
- Saturday July 23rd:
The second evening to our weekend is when we drop the black curtains and launch the all new Tattoo Theatre area of our space. Not only is this another chance to take in the art of ChetZar and Craig Larotonda, but on this special night you can truly soak in the entire Last Rites experience. To really bring it home, appearing on our new performance stage, we have two of our favorite partners in crime making a special appearance: Jamie Kilstein, our favorite stand up comedian (you may have seen him on Conan O’ Brian), totally uncensored! Making a special trip all the way from Budapest, Attila Csihar, vocalist from the infamous Norwegian Black Metal band Mayhem, will present his solo dark ambient project VOID OV VOICES. Together, these two artists truly represent the driving force of Last Rites philosophy. Along with a strolling funerary violinist… you truly do not want to miss this! See below for more information about the special guests.
- Sunday July 24th:
Sunday brings a great time to wind things down as we bring great painterly talent together from our family of artists to paint live at Last Rites. This is a great opportunity to witness these masters bring their stunning creations to life right before your eyes. Feel free to mingle and soak in an immense degree of creative energy and artistic inspiration.
- Artists for Sunday's live painting event include:
Shawn Barber, Kim Saigh, Chet Zar, Genevive Zacconi, Angie Mason, Fred Harper, Billy Norrby, Matt Rota, Martin Wittfooth, Paul Booth, The ArtFusion Experiment and more!
- Saturday's Special Guests:
- Jamie Kilstein:
“Hilarious and scathing.” - Rolling Stone Magazine
“Jamie Kilstein is a doofus.” - Glenn Beck
“There are few truly insightful, passionate and hysterically funny political comedians around, and even fewer coming out of the States. New Yorker Jamie Kilstein is a shining light probing into the murkier corners of the religious right and corrupt politics of his homeland. Funny and penetrating, he’s taken Bill Hicks’ baton and run with it.” - Time Out London
- Attila Csihar:
Void Of Voices is the solo Dark Ambient project of Budapest, Hungary based vocalist Attila Csihar. Since 1992, Attila has been the lead vocalist in the influential Norwegian Black Metal band Mayhem and since 2004 he has been the permanent guest vocalist for the doom/drone Metal band Sunn O))). Csihar states the concept behind Void Ov Voice is to use “only my voice as an instrument via a loop machine and effects”; through this process Csihar creates some of the most haunting Dark atmosphere and Ritualistic chants that could likely raise the Hordes from the depths of Hell itself. His main goal with Void Ov Voices is to play live shows where the visual aspects and live experience is sure to enhance the overall effect.
This series of events are not to be missed by any fans of the dark arts!

Machine Head's Phil Demmel: Track-By-Track Breakdown of "Unto The Locust"
Machine Head have wrapped up the production of their seventh studio album titled "Unto the Locust" (to be released on September 26/27, 2011 via Roadrunner Records). The band is currently destroying stages at the Rockstar Mayhem Festival. Recently, their guitar master Phil Demmel was interviewed by the Denver alt-weekly Westword and he was asked to give a track-by-track breakdown of "Unto The Locust". Here it is!
- "I Am Hell," the opener, is actually a sonata. It's a song in three parts, and it's a pyromaniac song. You know, it's the most brutal song Machine Head has ever written. It's got to at least be eight minutes long. So, it starts off with... you know, I'm not going to break down the music too much. I mean its still pretty early before the record comes out, but it's a three part tune.
- "Be Still in Now," which is, uh, kind of a few riffs that I threw together, that kind of got shelved for a minute, got put away, and got brought back from the dead when I came in one day and those guys were kind of jamming on it. It kind of got some chest compressions, and it got brought back to life. Epic jam. It's about struggle, and overcoming struggle, and knowing that the light at the end of the tunnel is only there if that light shines inside of you.
The title was... Like my grandmother handed down all of her grandchildren bible verses in all their Easter cards and Christmas cards. She used to sign one to each, and mine was Psalm 46, which is, "Be still, and know that I'm the Lord". Basically, be steadfast. Know that you will get through, and this shall pass. It kind of fit into the tune and kind of fit into the chorus. I mean, I got it tattooed on my arm around eight years ago. So, it's been kind of my mantra through my life. So, I'm really stoked that Rob chose to title the song that.
- "Locust" is a concept I came up with, based on a few people I have encountered in my life, just like everybody has: The type of person that just comes into your life under a different guise, under false pretenses, to befriend you, be your buddy, be your man, be on your team, or, you know, to be your lover or whatever. Their goal is just to soak up all your resources and just to drain you of all you've got, whatever you have to offer. Once they're discovered, they fly off into the next crop and drain that of everything. Yeah, it just feels like hell.
- "This is the End" is a burner, one of the faster Machine Head songs ever [laughter]. Rob and David got together, and we took a break from everything after touring for three years. We took about a six-month break, got back together and wrote this song. It's really fast. Kind of a Death Metal song, but it's got the classical sound like a Death Metal tune. The whole record has kind of neo-classical feel to it. The song, Rob's going to have to describe the lyrics. It's basically about people kind of living and not being able to accept present times and moving on to things.
- "Darkest of Day": this song is probably the biggest departure of our record, in terms of when we did on "Innocence Denied" on Through The Ashes. It's kind of a ballad, with acoustic guitars. This one I'm going to leave up to something of a surprise. All of my friends that aren't kind of into Metal say, "Damn, is that you guys?" It's a beautiful, beautiful song. Still heavy, but us growing as musicians. It has my favorite, the best solo I've ever done for this band, so far, dripping with emotion. I'll leave it at that.
- "Pearls Before Swine" is a song about addiction. It was a song without lyrics really for a while, without a concept. We kind of came up with an idea to write about addicts and addiction, when talking to each other and watching Breaking Bad episodes to kind of catch up and start again to see it. [laughter] It's not a song about hope. It's just a song about about being in the throes of addiction, in its claws, and a lot of my lyrics are in there. So, there's a lot of descriptive thoughts of addiction. It's not a song of hope for sure. It's not "Stairway to Heaven." It's not a song of hope for sure.
- And the last song is a song called "Who We Are," which is another song that Rob wrote. He and Dave kind of had it before I started writing for the record. I took some time off last year to deal with some personal stuff. This one and the other one I talked about earlier are the two that Rob had already written and brought. You know, he had all this music pouring out of him, and he had to get it out...so. Yeah, I don't know really how to describe those two, so I'm going to refrain from doing that.

IKILLYA Video for "...And Hell Followed With Him"
In the past year we have seen a lot of great bands take the New York City Underground Heavy Music Scene by the horns, and collectively they are helping to drive the scene to the sky passed the top of the Empire State Building! One band that is helping out by always delivering the goods is Ikillya. Fronted by vocalist Jason Lekberg, Ikillya's new album titled "Recon" is a fresh sounding groove machine full of furious well polished songs. "Recon" was produced and mixed by Josh Wilbur (Lamb of God, Hatebreed, This or the Apocalypse) and engineered by Paul Suarez (Lamb of God, Avenged Sevenfold), Ryan Kelly (Opeth, Orbs), and Armando Subero.
- Vital Statistics:
\m/ LINEUP: - Jason Lekberg (Vocals)
- David Kerr (Guitars)
- Mansa Gory (Bass)
\m/ YEAR OF FORMATION: 2005
\m/ ORIGIN: New York City
\m/ MISSION: To create heavy music that is exciting to play, forces us each to grow as artists, and elicits raw emotion from the listener.
\m/ BIOGRAPHY: IKILLYA is the ferocity that follows the moment of clarity created by the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. The human strength of will has been shown to be capable of achieving the impossible, and never is it more focused than when we are pushed to our absolute limit. Creating music has been our primary goal as long as we’ve had the cogitative ability to have a primary goal and all too often it is in direct opposition to the realities of everyday life.
We write from the desperate need for others to hear us and, frankly, play because we are genetically compelled to. Our new EP "Recon" is a collection of warning shots assembled from our first adventures as a complete unit. Each song represents a point in our mutation and a glimpse at what is yet to come. Recon is the beginning of the war for our lives.
We hope that our songs can be both our own sonic therapy and the knot at the end of someone else’s rope. Hang on friends. Your life is in your hands, and as long as you have air in your lungs, you can conquer the world.
Breathe, focus, Ikillya.
Ikillya’s debut music video for their first single off "Recon" “…And Hell Followed With Him” was shot by seasoned director Frankie Nasso (All That Remains, Mudvayne, Hellyeah) in Staten Island, New York. “Being able to work with the amazing Frankie Nasso and his team and then have "Recon" be the #5 most added album with no label support is simply mind-boggling” said Ikillya vocalist Jason Lekberg, “We've got lots more work to do and we thank those who have worked with us so far for helping get us off to such a great start.”
