What Happened Last Night At Webster Hall? Who Were The Victims? Why Did It Happen? Find Out Now!
What Happened Last Night At Webster Hall?
Last night, the CBGB Fest show that was taking place at New York City's Webster Hall, was cancelled after two current members of the CRO MAGS were stabbed by Harley Flanagan (the founding member of the CRO MAGS). The incident occurred right after VISION OF DISORDER's set!
As see on the NY Post: Around 8:15 PM, while the CRO MAGS were getting ready to take the stage, Harley Flanagan, 42, made his way into the venue’s VIP section toward the bands dressing room, sending nearly 30 guests on the balcony into a frenzy, law enforcement sources and witnesses said.
According to a witness (who has chosen to remain unnamed), Flanagan was acting weird right before the incident: "I talked to him outside minutes before it happened and I knew something was going to go down. He was like a fu&*ing lunatic outside... Next thing I know he's in the VIP area stabbing people!"
Here is what the folks from Bowery Boogie saw:
"We were watching the hardcore show at Webster Hall – featuring Sick of it All, Cro Mags, and VOD – when all hell broke loose upstairs. Harley Flanagan, founding member of the Cro Mags stumbled into the VIP lounge with a knife. Security mobilized in a hot minute and beat the shit out of him. It took no less than six beefy dudes to control the madness. Blood was everywhere, and bone protruded from his shin.
"Cops quickly appeared and took him away in cuffs. Not before he had already stabbed some dude in the chest (said victim left the scene with a bandage over the wound). Because of the violence the rest of the show was canceled. The remaining bands promised to reschedule the show. To be fair, Webster Hall security contained the situation professionally. Lots of drunken, pissed off hardcore fans were on edge after the cops shut down the show, but the scene was cleared without further incident."
“Someone was yelling, ‘Get his hands, get his hands, he’s got a knife!’ ” witness Dave Gustav said. “Everything went nuts.”
“People started booing him and throwing stuff at him,” eyewitness Justin Brannan said. “His hands were handcuffed but he still gave everyone the finger.”
Here is a detailed description of the events (courtesy of The Daily News):
"He first lunged at one of the men and slashed him twice in the side, the sources said. As the second victim tried to break up the fight, Flanagan bit him and slashed him near his right eye.
"Flanagan then turned back to the first victim and cut him again in the right arm and bit him in the left forearm. Both men were taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
"Flanagan, who played bass with the band, was charged with second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, cops said. A 4- to 5-inch knife was recovered at the scene."

Who Were The Victims?
According to the NY Post, William Berario, 45, was slashed above the eye and bitten on his cheek. Michael "The Gook" Couls, 33 (current CRO MAGS bassist & member of the DMS crew) was cut on his arm and stomach.
Both members of CRO MAGS were taken to Bellevue Hospital with non life-threatening wounds.
Flanagan, suffered a broken leg by the time security finally pinned him down, witnesses said. Cops handcuffed him to a chair and took him out and also brought him to the hospital. He was hit with two counts of 2nd degree assault and weapons charges.
Why Did It Happen?
The attack was allegedly sparked by Flanagan's request to play on stage during the CRO MAGS set being denied, as well as him being under a high level of stress due to his recent divorce. It is believed that his intention was to injure the current bass player to force the CRO MAGS to need him to play bass. In his possession at the time of his arrest was a VIP laminate from the CBGB festival, which had granted him access to the VIP area where the attack occurred. He received the laminate because he was a panelist at the CBGB festival on the previous day.
Reportedly, the CRO MAGS camp had warned the Webster Hall staff about Flanagan's presence at the show and asked them to not allow him inside the venue. Once inside, allegedly Flanagan was being served pitchers of beer inside the VIP area (located upstairs at the venue).
"You can all thank Harley Flanagan for ruining the night for everyone," CRO MAGS lead singer John Joseph McGowan told the crowd.
Note from the club: First off, we don’t sell pitchers of beer or anything in pitchers for that matter. We were on the lookout for him, all the security guards at the front + guestlist people + cashier were shown pictures of Harley (we were only alerted to this issue 2 hours after doors) and we do not know if he was already in by that time or not, but the pictures online are old and don’t really look how he looked on Friday. The security guards upfront were given his full name to look for when checking IDs, as well as the cashier and guestlist people. We do not believe he had an alcohol wristband on, and he did have 3 CBGB VIP laminates on him (which is how he got into the VIP area in the first place), so he likely came in said “I’m not drinking “ (to avoid getting ID’d) and flashed his badge. We saw him (as well as most of the incident) and he did not look close to the pictures anymore.

TESTAMENT's Eric Peterson Discusses 'Dark Roots On Earth' & How Gene Hoglan Is Too Busy To Commit!
In case you didn't know, TESTAMENT will be releasing a NEW album entitled 'Dark Roots of Earth' on July 27, 2012 (Europe) and July 31, 2012 (North America) via Nuclear Blast Records. The album was produced, mixed and mastered once again by the world renowned Andy Sneap (ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE, ACCEPT, EXODUS). Special bonus tracks were recorded, mixed and mastered by Juan Urteaga (CATTLE DECAPITATION, HEATHEN, VILE, SADUS) at his Trident Studios. The highly anticipated follow up to their 2008 release 'The Formation of Damnation' will be released.
Recently, the great folks over at Metal Assault conducted an interview with Eric Peterson (guitarist). During the interview, Peterson discussed the bands NEW album 'Dark Roots Of Earth' and the bands current drummer situation. A few excerpts of the interview follow:
Metal Assault: At the time of this interview, I haven't been given access to the album, so I have to ask you this. How does it compare to the previous one in terms of the overall sound?
Eric: It's in the same vein, definitely. But if I have to compare it to any records, it would be a hybrid of "The Gathering" and "The Ritual". What I mean by that is, musically it's heavy like "The Gathering". It's really riff-heavy, it's got a lot of melody to it, and it has the fast brutal stuff. Then it's also got the slow heavy stuff. But vocally, and in terms of the way the songs are arranged, it's like "The Ritual". This record is a lot more melodic than anything we've done. "The Ritual" was like an easy-listening kind of TESTAMENT record, but super melodic. We had "Return To Serenity", "Electric Crown" and some really good songwriting, but the drums were kind of … too easy, you know. There were some really good songs on there, but it lacked the heaviness of "The Gathering". So, I think with those two ideas put together, the most melodic and the heaviest side of TESTAMENT mixed all together, you have "Dark Roots Of Earth".
Metal Assault: You talked about the drumming. Do you think Gene Hoglan's return, at least for this record, helped you in that aspect?
Eric : Definitely. The songs were all written before Gene came in, and the beats were kind of were what they were already. But Gene came in and just played them better than they were anticipated. Like I said, you can have songs written and the beats all programmed or whatever, and the ideas are there, but it depends on what drummer is going to play them. Like for example, the song "Native Blood" is a catchy, melodic song, but it's got a blast beat in the chorus. So it depends on who's going to do that blast beat. It just happens to be Gene Hoglan doing it, so it's going to sound pretty authentic and pretty brutal.
Metal Assault: Now this is something pretty much all fans want to know. What's your permanent drummer situation? I know Gene's been touring with you on this run with ANTHRAX, but what's going to happen after that?
Eric: We're trying to make it such that Gene can stay with the band, and I think Gene wants to stay with TESTAMENT, but he's got other things he's doing. Just like Alex, who's doing his jazz stuff and we try to work out scheduling, and I'm also starting DRAGONLORD again. A new album is being recorded right now and it's going to come out soon. So we all have different stuff that we're trying to do, but when it comes to TESTAMENT, when we schedule stuff we all have to stick to the plan. So that's kind of what we're aiming for, to make a schedule that'll work for everybody. We do have the first tour in Europe for three weeks in August, and Gene is not going to be available for that. So that's where we kind of learned our lesson. The communication between the management wasn't spot on, and it kind of got messed up. Gene signed on for our Europe tour, but then he wasn't aware that DETHKLOK was starting earlier or later, or whatever it was. So from now on we're really trying to nip it in the bud. That's out plan, at least. Drummers in TESTAMENT have always been a curse, but they've also always been a blessing [laughs], because the records are coming out better. For me, getting to write with a Dave Lombardo or with John Tempesta or Paul Bostaph, and now me jamming with Hoglan again, it really has inspired me with the music that I've written. Once I found out that I was going to get Gene, I really honed in on everything I wrote and went, "OK, I can actually get super fast double bass here on this part." When I wrote with Paul, I was thinking of doing something here and there, but then I would think, "Oh, he doesn't like to play that kind of beat. So I won't do that." So I was kind of compromising on stuff, but with Gene, there was no compromise. I just did everything that I wanted to do.

Feed Your Eyes With NAPALM DEATH's NEW Video For "The Wolf I Feed"!
The leaders of extreme, NAPALM DEATH, recently released their latest effort, 'Utilitarian', and it was hailed as a masterpiece and one of the best albums in the band's history. Now NAPALM DEATH presents, in cooperation with ROCK HARD magazine (Germany), a NEW video clip for the song "The Wolf I Feed". The video was shot by Tim Fox (TESSERACT, SKINDREAD), and it perfectly incorporates the meaning of the song. Singer Mark "Barney" Greenway explains the story behind "The Wolf I Feed": "This is one of Mitch's lyrics. It is about Armageddon ideology and the way this is used to drive populations sensitive towards religious dogma. When they can fear 'The Great Satan', that is of course a very powerful tool. It can be used to propagate everything from racial suspicion and superiority, to wars based around the dogmatic quest for moral purification."
You can watch "The Wolf I Feed" here:
You can purchase Utilitarian HERE on CM Distro in a variety of formats.

Evan Seinfeld Breaks His Silence On Why He Left BIOHAZARD To Join ATTIKA 7!
Former BIOHAZARD frontman Evan Seinfeld (now in ATTIKA7), has had quiet a career in the entertainment industry! At the young age of 17 he formed BIOHAZARD, a Hardcore Punk band that riskily crossed over into Heavy Metal. After many years of placing New York City culture in the International map of Heavy Music, Seinfeld started looking for other ways to grow as an artist. This is when he started venturing into television and later into adult film. While he is proud of all that he has accomplished, music is where his heart is!
When Seinfeld left BIOHAZARD earlier this year, right after the completion of the bands NEW album 'Reborn in Defiance', the entire Heavy Music community was shocked to find out that Seinfeld had quit the band he founded in 1987. While the reasons for his departure didn't change the evolution of the band, their fans were left wondering the reason behind Seinfeld's decision. We recently had the chance to chat with Seinfeld about why he left the band to join ATTIKA 7, and why he is more excited than ever before about his upcoming album with his NEW band.

ATTIKA 7’s NEW album, 'Blood Of My Enemies', is set for a July 31, 2012 release and features ex-Biohazard vocalist Evan Seinfeld, lead guitarist, notable songwriter and famed (Sons of Anarchy) motorcycle builder Rusty Coones, and bassist Tony Campos, founding member of Static X, who also currently performs in Soulfly, Prong, Possessed, Asesino and Ministry. The band recorded 'Blood of My Enemies' with legendary producer MUDROCK (Avenged Sevenfold, Godsmack).

LAMB OF GOD Release Official Statement Regarding The Fate Of Randy Blythe!
As previously reported, Randy Blythe was arrested Wednesday (June 27) at the Prague airport on manslaughter charges. Blythe, 41, who was represented by two lawyers in court, is accused of causing the fatal injury that occurred at LAMB OF GOD's May 24, 2010 show in Prague. The singer apparently either pushed or struck a 19-year-old fan named Daniel who had come on stage, and that person died 14 days later of bleeding in the brain. Here is an official statement from the band regarding this matter:
"First of all, thanks to everyone who has reached out in support of Randy and each of us in this terrible situation. It’s noted and very much appreciated.
"We have been keeping our heads down and not speaking out due to the fluid nature of the situation and the constantly changing information that even we receive daily.
"Within an hour things can do endless 180’s. It’s maddening to try and make heads or tails.
"We’re taking the time to speak to you as it has been a significant period of time since this situation began and while nothing is immediately clear to any of us, we are not trying to keep anyone in the dark.
"We have reached out and are making use of the resources we have acquired to help our brother who is still detained in Czech jail.
"In the two years since, we were never notified of anything related to this incident.
"Randy is our brother and we assure you, we are all staying very positive for him, working endlessly behind the scenes to provide any and all assistance possible.
"The best we can do is to stay positive and continue to support our friend that we know is innocent.
"We know that justice will prevail and we will continue to do our part to support our friend."

THE CULT Suffer Terrifying Bus Crash In Croatia!
THE CULT are currently on tour in Europe in support of their NEW album 'Choice Of Weapon'. Earlier this week, at around 6:00 AM local time they experienced a terrifying crash in their tour bus while they were traveling from Split, Croatia to Ljubijana, Slovenia. Here is what happened:
"I was the only one awake", said the band's vocalist Ian Astbury, who was seated in the bus's front lounge. "All of a sudden, the bus veered violently, hit the guard rail and tipped on a 45-degree angle, then righted itself and came to a halt. The guard rail was the only thing that prevented us from going over an 80-foot drop".
Astbury was thrown into the aisle and suffered injuries to his neck, back and shoulder. The rest of the band and crew were asleep in their bunks, so no one else was badly hurt.
Limping down the highway, the driver was able to get the bus to a service station a few miles up the road. Astbury's injuries were iced and he received pain medication. After some temporary patching up of the bus, the band was able to make it to the venue for that night's show, and played a full concert. But it wasn't until 5:00 AM. the next morning that their fully-repaired bus arrived to take them on the 20+ hour trip to the next gig.
"No one has had any sleep, so the guys are pretty beat, and we are still in shock, to be honest", admitted Astbury. "You never think something like this is going to happen to you, and it just did."

LAMB OF GOD's Willie Adler Invites Fans To "Free Randy Blythe Vigil"; Donate Your Beer Money To Help Our Homeboy Out!
Earlier today (July 5th), LAMB OF GOD's Willie Adler (guitarist) posted the following message on his Facebook page:
"I want to thank all for the support first and foremost. I also want to share the link to the event this Sunday on Brown Island here in Richmond. An event spearheaded by Mr. Tommy Streat. It’s a get-together for all who care to attend to show support for our brother Randy Blythe, and to voice our concerns over the travesty of justice that is currently unfolding. I hope to see you all there."
The "Free Randy Blythe Vigil" will take place on Sunday, July 8 on Browns Island from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 PM in Richmond, Virginia. Click here to RSVP
LAMB OF GOD have posted the following message on their Facebook page:
"As many of you know, Randy is being held in Czech jail for a crime we believe he did not commit. We are still learning about the legal system there and the situation is fluid. We have retained local legal counsel, have support from the US Embassy and we are flying over additional lawyers to try and assure that Randy has the best representation possible. As many of you have pointed out, the simple fact is that the legal fees are adding up very quickly.
"While we appreciate the outpouring of support, we are not interested in trying to profit or gather press or sympathy from this event. We have assembled this page to make it possible for people that feel so inclined to donate to the expenses incurred in defending this case. One hundred percent of the money raised will go to the legal fees and any remaining balance will be given to a charity of Randy's choice upon his release."

IWRESTLEDABEARONCE Bring NEW Vocalist On Board? Band Releases Statement In Order To Clear All Rumors!
IWRESTLEDABEARONCE is part of the Vans Warped Tour this summer performing on the Ernie Ball Stage. Fans attending the festival will notice something unfamiliar on stage: IWRESTLEDABEARONCE performing with a different vocalist. To cast all rumors and speculation aside, guitarist Steven Bradley has issued the following statement:
"So here it is... complete transparency. A press release written by me (Steven, original IWABO guitarist) with the truth on what's going down.
"The day before our Warped Tour show in Dallas, TX we had a day off in the DFW area. Krysta lives there now, so she went home to relax and do some laundry. The next day, we received word from her minutes before our set that she discovered she and her fiancé are expecting a kid and she would not be returning to finish Warped Tour with us. Obviously this is an insane curveball for everybody, but in typical IWABO fashion we will press on. And no matter what happens, Krysta has been our best friend for years and we want her to be happy.
"So what the fuck is the plan then, you ask? Well on literally a few minutes notice, our friend Courtney LaPlante flew her ass down to meet up with us today so that we won't miss a single show of this tour. Courtney is a beast in both the singing and screaming departments and is also an incredibly awesome person. We wouldn't tarnish the years of work that we've put into this band by having somebody half-ass it on stage with us, so please come to a show and give her a high-five and make her feel welcome for doing us this huge favor. It makes it feel even better and more natural since she has been a long-term fan of our band and already knows the material.
"So long story short; Fear not friends and Bear Fuckers... We will continue to play Warped Tour and we hope that you will continue to support us. Getting to play for and talk to so many of you on a daily basis is honestly what we live for, and we will definitely continue with our plan to high-five everybody on Earth. We will update you with more info soon, including some NEW tour dates and info on our recently-finished full-length horror/comedy/whatever film "A Beary Scary Movie"!
"And finally, thank you so much to everybody who has been so supportive of us for all these years and we hope to see you again soon!
Love,
- Steven / iwabo"

As previously reported, Alexi Laiho was rushed to the Oslo hospital on the evening of Tuesday, July 3rd with extreme stomach pain. The doctors in the emergency

As a result, Children Of Bodom has been forced to cancel their appearance at the Ruisrock festival. The band comments:
“This is not an easy letter for us to write. Alexi is suffering from a serious infection. He is still in hospital in Oslo under supervision of the doctors and we don’t know yet when they will release him.
"We have no choice other than canceling Ruisrock in Turku on Saturday as well. This is a very bitter pill for us to swallow. We had decided to do only two festivals in our homeland this summer to make it real special, and now this.
"We hope that we will be able to make up for this very soon. To all our fans who had been looking forward to rock with us at Ruisrock this weekend, take our apologies and enjoy the festival. In our spirits, we will be there, too.”

Meet Randy Blythe's Alleged Victim Daniel N. (RIP); Bands Manager Is Confident That The Case Will Be Dropped!
According to Blesk.cz, the mother of Daniel N., who played guitar in a Czech metal band, is still coming to terms with her son's passing. A year after the 19-year-old's tragic death, she wrote on a social-networking site, "Approaching the date when you went to your last concert. I'm not gonna make it without you and I'm totally heartbroken. I hope we meet together soon. Life without you is miserable!"
A three-minute video report from Czech Republic's Prima TV featuring photos and video footage of the fan who died of fatal injuries allegedly sustained at a LAMB OF GOD concert more than two years ago can be seen below.
As the band's manager, Larry Mazer, told Rolling Stone on Tuesday, "We were told on Saturday that he had been approved by the judge for bail – $200,000 – and if we paid it, he would be released probably this morning. We all went to bed thinking that he would be out. I had flights booked for him to come back. And then at 4 o'clock this morning – because they're six hours ahead – I received a call from the lawyer in the Czech Republic telling us that the prosecution was challenging the bail, and because of that, he wouldn't be released today."
Mazer has spoken to Blythe's bandmates, and no one recalls the incident in question. "However, there are YouTube videos, which 100 percent show Randy's innocence. As a matter of fact, all of those videos have now been sent to our lawyer, and he's presenting it to the judge tomorrow morning [July 4th]. This case is so full of holes. Nobody reported an injury of any kind at the concert, or after the concert. It was at least an hour to two hours later, supposedly, when this kid went to a hospital.
"So that's number one – why did nothing occur during the show? Number two, he had supposedly been in a coma for 30 days, but it wasn't [until] a couple of months later that they contacted the promoter to ask his understanding of the events. He said the same thing – that the show went on fine, no nothing, no incidents. They told him that a person had been injured, which led to a death, which he had no knowledge of whatsoever. And then it went away. Two years go by, and Randy gets arrested."

The crime of which Blythe is being accused is punishable by up to ten years in prison, according to popular Czech news web site Novinky.cz.
A number of Blythe's fellow rockers have come to his defense, with many of them citing the 2004 shooting death onstage of PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott as the reason why musicians are so defensive nowadays about fans invading the stage. FEAR FACTORY Announce Tour Cancellation Due To Reasons Beyond Their Control!
Due to reasons well beyond the band’s control, FEAR FACTORY will not be taking part in this Summer’s "Shockwave Tour", slated to commence tomorrow (July 6) in Seattle.
Commented the band in a collective statement: "We are truly disappointed not to be part of the 'Shockwave Tour'. We send our sincerest apologies to all our North American fans planning to come out this Summer, but we will be back. Please look for FEAR FACTORY headlining dates in August."
Added Shockwave organizers: "It is with great disappointment that we have to make this announcement. With the recent departure of VOIVOD from the Shockwave festival lineup, as well as low advance ticket sales, we have decided to pull the plug on the Shockwave festival.
"For purchases made with a credit card, your card will automatically be refunded. All other refunds are available at point of purchase.
"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused."
FEAR FACTORY recently unleashed their latest full-length, 'The Industrialist' via Candlelight Records. Commended by Revolver in a 4/5 review for offering up "the same pulsating, angry urgency of old… nicely counterbalanced by some incredibly deft melodies", called "…a well-orchestrated montage of universal agitation and despair", by Alarm, and crowned "…their most aggressive offering to date", by Exclaim, 'The Industrialist' is the second album written by vocalist Burton C. Bell and guitarist Dino Cazares since reuniting in 2009 after a seven-year split.

LAMB OF GOD's Manager Talks About Randy Blythe's Arrest & Immediate Future!
Blesk.cz (Czech web site) conducted an exclusive interview with Larry Mazer (LAMB OF GOD manager) about the ordeal of Randy Blythe.
[Translation credit: Martin Lipták for his help with the Czech-to-English translation of the interview below.] Many thanks to Blabbermouth.net for posting the interview!
Blesk.cz:
What is the latest on Randy Blythe's release?
Larry Mazer:
"I have no idea. The bail [in the amount of $200,000] was posted Tuesday morning [July 3]. We tried to make bail on Monday, but everything took a bit longer to be processed. Randy should be released immediately. His lawyer told us so on Saturday [during a court hearing]. In the U.S., he would have been. You post the bail and you're free."
Blesk.cz:
How long will Randy stay in jail?
Larry Mazer:
"I was told that it may take up to 20 days — that the investigator may require more time to investigate the case."
Blesk.cz:
How have the other bandmembers reacted to this whole ordeal?
Larry Mazer:
"Everybody is shocked. It's absurd. It seems like a bad joke that Randy is sitting in your jail. He did nothing wrong. He is innocent."
Blesk.cz:
Were you aware that a Czech fan of LAMB OF GOD died two years ago shortly after attending the band's concert?
Larry Mazer:
"Nobody had contacted us in the last two years. My contact information is publicly available, but I never heard from the family [of the deceased fan]. We did not even hear anything about it from the concert organizer. Nobody called us to let us know."
Blesk.cz:
When did you first find out about the fan having died after allegedly sustaining injuries at the LAMB OF GOD concert?
Larry Mazer:
"Last Wednesday [when Randy was detained at the Prague airport]. The organizer of the concert at Abaton [the club where the 2010 concert took place] now says that the Czech police contacted him three months after the boy died. I do not understand why no one got in touch with us to let us know. The boy was in a coma and then he died, and we never heard from anybody."
Blesk.cz:
The Czech police say that they contacted the American authorities...
Larry Mazer:
"No one told us anything. Do you think that I would send the band to the Czech Republic to play a concert knowing that something like this could happen? No way!"
Blesk.cz:
According to the police, Randy shoved the Czech fan off the stage...
Larry Mazer:
"There is one video from the concert [see below] where you can see someone jumping into the audience. But it wasn't Randy that pushed him. The security guard shoved him off the stage."
Blesk.cz:
In the video you can see both Randy and the security guard pushing the person off the stage...
Larry Mazer:
"But there is no footage of the man falling to the ground. He fell into the crowd, but you can't see that in the video."
Blesk.cz:
Is it common for LAMB OF GOD concerts to be so wild?
Larry Mazer:
"It's typical for rock concerts. People want to have fun. But nothing like this has ever happened at a LAMB OF GOD show before that I am aware of."
The crime of which Blythe is being accused is punishable by up to ten years in prison, according to popular Czech news web site Novinky.cz.

Which only leaves FEAR FACTORY on board (the rest of the bands on the bill had already dropped off). According to some reliable sources FEAR FACTORY have already been looking to jump on another tour.
While the organizers of "Shockwave Festival" haven't confirmed or denied the cancellation of the tour, without the bands there is no show. Stay tuned more more information!
