VISION OF DISORDER Record The Best Album Of Their Career Thanks To Their Musical Maturity!
In times in which music has become somewhat predictable, generic and stale, it is very important for artists to be able to take their time developing their musical craft while moving forward with their art form. There is of course a lot of pressure for any band today, since lets face it the music industry is on a very fragile plateau and as a result bands don't "break" as quickly as they used to. Nowadays artists need to release high quality material otherwise they will get eaten up by their competitors and dissed by their fans. If there is a very positive outcome from the era of digital music its that artists must strive for quality over quantity.
This is something that VISION OF DISORDER fully understands and this is why they took their time with the overall process for their NEW album 'The Cursed Remain Cursed' (set to be released on September 18th via Candlelight Records). Following a hiatus that proved to be extremely positive for the entire band, the VOD boys reunited to perform live so they could taste the water once again and to see the reaction of their loyal fans. As we all know, hiatuses can kill an artists relevance real fast. Thankfully, vocalist Tim Williams made it a point to stay involved within the scene through his band BLOODSIMPLE and by participating at the "Roadrunner United" concert in New York City. Once VOD returned to the stage, the band members all agreed in continuing their musical legacy but this time around they would do it on their own terms so they wouldn't get burned out again.
The turning point for VOD and what helped to make 'The Cursed Remain Cursed' an instant classic, was when Tim Williams decided to clean his act up and focus on his family. As we all know, once an artist kicks away old habits they usually get a second air of inspiration. This is exactly what happened and as a result Tim Williams was able to focus on his lyrical content, his vocal projection, and balancing out his famous scream with his great singing voice.
But hey, he wasn't the only that one that matured as an artist. The rest of the band - Matt Baumbach, Mike Kennedy, Mike Fleischmann, Brendon Cohen - did their musical homework and wrote the best songs they have ever written. You may disagree with this statement since VOD have a lot of great songs in their catalog. And you can disagree all you want, that is completely fine. But we are pretty sure that when you listen to the 'Cursed Remain Cursed' you will be mind blown by a band who many have counted out but thanks to their loyal fans and the bands devotion for good music, VISION OF FU&*ING DISORDER have reinvented the steel! We predict and hope that a lot of bands "borrow" musical ideas from VOD once again and step their game up. Then we are pretty sure the quality over quantity statement (see above) will help the fragile plateau become stronger than all!
VISION OF DISORDER live dates:
- 9/14/2012 The Underworld - London, UK
- 9/15/2012 Mojo Live - Manchester, UK

Eddie Van Halen Spent 3 Weeks In A Hospital Due To Diverticulitis (A Digestive Disease)
As previously reported, Eddie Van Halen
underwent an emergency surgery for a severe bout of diverticulitis. No
further surgeries are needed and a full recovery is expected within four - six months. The long hospital stay of 3 weeks was required because surgery to remove the infected intestine resulted in another infection when Van Halen popped a few stitches.
VAN HALEN's scheduled November 2012 tour of Japan is currently being rescheduled and the band looks forward to seeing and playing for their fans in 2013.
Diverticulosis happens when pouches (diverticula) form in the wall of the colon. If these pouches get inflamed or infected, it is called diverticulitis. Diverticulitis can be very painful. (Source: WebMD). We wish Eddie a speedy recovery!

Puerto Rican Rockers MESSAGE TO VENUS Get A Nomination For A 2012 Latin Rock Award!
Puerto Rico-via-Miami's rising star rockers Message To Venus are proud to announce that they have been nominated for a 2012 Latin Rock Award in the Slam Alternativo/Rock category.
"To even be considered for a music award is such an honor," states M2V vocalist Jandre Nadal. "This will be Puerto Rico's first Latin Rock Awards with a red carpet, full media coverage, etc. Being nominated alongside great bands such as D-cent Jerks, Adam Zoom and Drama FA is amazing. I've known the guys in these bands for a long time and I know the amount of hard work and sacrifice they've made. Whether we win or not, the simple fact that M2V is nominated is a prize for us. I'm sure September 22nd will be a great day for all PR rock bands."
Sponsored by Voltaje Magazine, the awards will take place on September 22nd, 2012 at 8pm, at Teatro Yagüez De Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.
Stirring influences ranging from the aura of Tool, the innovation of The Mars Volta and the classic presentation of Led Zeppelin into a melting pot of melodic heaviness, Florida-based Puerto Rico-native rockers Message To Venus have risen to the forefront of the independent music scene, drawing comparisons to established acts such as The Deftones, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains.
Making their first official mark on the music scene in 2011 with the release of their debut single “Universal You”, from the subsequent EP The Envelope, M2V were warmly welcomed by rock fans from around the globe. Praised by established artists such as Godsmack and Halestorm, receiving weekly spins at Octane and MusicChoice (among many others) and being featured in the motion picture The Witness (El Testigo) have all added to the band's growing portfolio of accomplishments.
Feeling as though fate was nudging them in a specific direction, the members of Message To Venus made the decision to relocate to Miami, Florida in order to continue to promote their music, as well as to record their debut full-length album, Victims & Villains. “Puerto Rico is beautiful... it's our home”, explains guitarist John Feliciano. “We play there as often as we can, but in order to expand globally we want to be planted on soil where touring opportunities are more frequent.”
2012 has already proven to be a busy year for M2V, seeing the band in full writing and recording mode. Their music has also been nominated for a Latin Rock Award in the Slam Alternativo/Rock category. With the awards ceremony taking place on September 22nd 2012 in Puerto Rico, it promises to be yet another step on Message To Venus' ascension to the summit of the modern rock music scene.

As previously reported, on Friday, July 27, the DEFTONES performed at a private event at Warner Bros. Records in Burbank, California. During this special performance, they debuted two NEW songs called "Rosemary" and "Roller Derby". The as of yet entitled NEW DEFTONES album is scheduled to be released on October 9, 2012. The follow up to the critically acclaimed 'Diamond Eyes', released on May 4, 2010, is a lethal album for the DEFTONES and they know this. This is why once again they have lined up producer Nick Raskulinecz, who also produced 'Diamond Eyes'.
Lead singer Chino Moreno told Billboard.com why the band got back to work faster than usual. "It was important that we wanted to not drag it out," he said. "We have a well-documented history of taking forever to make records. But with our last record, we did it in a really short, good amount of time, probably four or five months from the time we started writing until we finished it. For us, that was record time, so this time the idea was, 'Let's go in and start a record on this date and let's try to be finished by summertime and keep this work ethic we kind of stumbled upon on the last one,' and we did."
'Diamond Eyes' sold 62,000 copies in the US in its first week and debuted at the Number 6 position on The Billboard 200 chart. 'Diamond Eyes' was the deftones first album, since their bassist Chi Cheng had a horrific car accident on November 4, 2008. The accident left him in a comatose state. Sergio Vega recorded 'Diamond Eyes', toured with the band, and is back in the studio to record the bands seventh studio album.
Stay tuned for more DEFTONES news!

Asked how the NEW DEFTONES disc sounds, Moreno told Billboard.com, "It's not a super fast or slow record. It's very dynamic. Some of my favorite things about DEFTONES are the dynamics. Yes, we're a heavy band, but we're not just in-your-face aggro the whole time, punching you in the face. There's a lot of aggression in some of the music, but there's also this very soothing element where there's a lot of soundscapes rather than attack, attack, attack the whole time. I understand that's a big part of our sound, but I really feel like we reached a peak on our dynamics on this record with those two qualities — the beauty of something and just straight, ruthless aggression."
Stay tuned for more DEFTONES news!

More Details About The Arrest Of Jimmy Bain (Former Member Of DIO/Rainbow)!
As previously reported, former DIO/RAINBOW bassist James Stewart Bain (A.K.A. Jimmy Bain) was arrested on Tuesday night for DUI and illegally possessing prescription medication. Here are some excerpts of the Police report:
According to Sgt. Darin Ryburn of the Burbank, California police department, Bain, 64, was making a left out of the Fry's Home Electronics store parking lot in his 1995 green Toyota Camry on to westbound Vanowen Street, near Hollywood Way, about 9 p.m. Tuesday night (August 28) when he pulled in front another vehicle, causing a collision.
Police officers administered a field sobriety test, but Bain "failed to satisfactorily pass it," Ryburn told the Burbank Leader. They also discovered the musician was in possession of Vicodin pills without a valid prescription.
Bain, who had an outstanding felony warrant for drugs, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, possessing narcotic pills and the warrant, Ryburn said. He was released Wednesday after posting $60,000 bail.
The rocker is scheduled to appear in a Los Angeles County Superior courtroom on September 19.

CONVERGE Reveal The Lyrics For Their NEW Song "Aimless Arrow"!
Earlier this week, CONVERGE announced that they have completed the production of their NEW album 'All We Love We Leave Behind' (set to be released on October 9th via Epitaph, via Pitchfork). The band has also debuted a NEW song called "Aimless Arrow". Many of you were wondering what the lyrics for the song are, so the band has shared them on their
official website. Here you go:
AIMLESS ARROW
to live the life you want
you’ve abandoned those in need
a necessary casualty
or so you believe
your wake will always travel
and well up in the eyes
of those that you sacrificed
in order to survive
i’m that aimless arrow
lost from my very start
violence without purpose
born of broken hearts
no one will ever guide me
as i sail through the air
now i just bring sadness
in those who choose to care
i know the tears they’re weeping
and the damage they will take
it’s the curse of restlessness
and the weight of your mistakes
they are those that love you
and those that need you more
then the sense gravity
banging down your door
i’m that aimless arrow
lost from my very start
violence without purpose
born of broken hearts
no one will ever guide me
as i sail through the air
now i just bring sadness
in those who choose to care
aimless arrow
aimless arrow
aimless arrow
lost from the start
The song can be heard via the Max Moore-directed video below. Enjoy!

SOILWORK Reveal NEW Album Title & Are Producing A Double Album!
As previously reported, Swedish Metallers SOILWORK are currently locked up in the studio recording the follow-up to their 2010 release 'The Panic Broadcast'. In order to ensure that the production process progresses smoothly, the band has kidnapped producer Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, BLOODBATH) for what will be the bands ninth studio album. Get this: the upcoming album is called 'The Living Infinite' and it will be a double album.
Here is a statement by vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid:
“So here’s the scoop. Me and the boys have been waiting to share this for quite some time now: 'The Living Infinite' will be a double album! A REAL double album, in the true sense of the word, which means no fillers and no left-overs.
"I’ve been wanting to do this for a while and I proposed the idea to the rest of the guys in the band, during our festival tour last summer. Everybody liked the title The Living Infinite and also the idea of working towards the goal of releasing a double album. David Andersson was already playing with us last summer, so he has also been a part of this goal from the start. I feel very excited and proud that we’ve managed to find the inspiration and dedication it takes to create somewhat of a conceptual double album, especially since it’s dealing with a lot of existential questions.
"We would also like to reveal a brand new band shot by Hannah Verbeuren Photography. We are currently hard at work in the studio, putting this beast on tape. Things are sounding incredibly good so far. So excited about this and can’t wait to share the awesomeness with you all!"

SUICIDE SILENCE Singer Breaks The S&*t Out Of His Elbow - Gnarly Image Available!
Yesterday, SUICIDE SILENCE vocalist/screamer Mitch Lucker shattered his elbow so bad that his "not so funny bone" penetrated his skin. Mitch is known for his commitment to Heavy Music, and proved this last night in Odessa, Texas. Mitch performed a full set with his band mates in SUICIDE SILENCE. What a trooper! We wish Mitch a quick and smooth recovery!
Here is a very gnarly image that Mitch posted on his Instagram account:
Earlier this week, SUICIDE SILENCE posted on Facebook that they were cancelling a performance at Geo’s “due to circumstances beyond our control.” They didn’t go into detail as to why, but Lucker’s photo might be a hint. They added in their posting that the next two performances were happening, so even with the banged up elbow, the show must go on.

MÖTLEY CRÜE Have No Plans Of Releasing A NEW Album This Year
MÖTLEY CRÜE recently released a brand NEW song called "Sex" to coincide with the launch of the band's North American co-headlining tour with KISS. But CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx tells Billboard.com that there are currently no plans for the group to record a full album's worth of material.
"It takes time to put together music," Sixx said. "Right now we're just writing music. There's tons of material always there — there's riffs for days, ideas, choruses here, verses there. For us, it's how many songs have we written (and) how many do we love and what do we want to do with them? It's about finding the time to go home, be off the road, get everybody in a room and start riffing and see where it does."
Written when the band was together during their residency in Las Vegas last February, "Sex" was the first studio track from the CRÜE since their June 2008 release of "Saints Of Los Angeles".
"We happened to have this song everyone was really excited about, so instead of saying, 'Let's add it to the pile of songs we have and we'll sort 'em out later,' we were, 'Hey, let's finish this one up,'" Sixx told Billboard.com. "We got it out there for the fans, for the tour, and it's exciting for the band to play something new. We love the classics and the hits, and I know the fans love that, too, but to be able to play something new is great.
"We wanted to save that big push for when we do (an album)," he added, "but the way the song is connecting with people feels like the way the music used to connect with people when we were a baby band and just had our first record out. The song really seems to work."

Heavy Metal Fan Is Accused Of Opening Fire At A Baltimore High School; Media Blames Incident On RAMMSTEIN & The Manson Family!
According to the Daily News, the teenager who allegedly opened fire on the first day of classes at a suburban Baltimore school is obsessed with German Metal band RAMMSTEIN and the murderous Manson Family.
Bobby Gladden (15) was charged as an adult with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault for critically wounding a classmate with a gun blast. He was being held without bail at the local lockup.
Gladden, who listed his nickname as “SuicidalSmile” on Facebook, left a troubling message before he allegedly brought a gun to Perry High School Monday and opened fire.
“First day of school, last day of my life,” he wrote.
It concluded, “F--- the world.”
So how did the media tie Gladden's murder attempt to RAMMSTEIN and the Manson family? Well, Gladden posted a maniacal-looking photo of Till Lindemann (lead singer), and listed under education a book about killer Charles Manson and his followers.
According to Police, Gladden was hiding a gun under his coat when he suddenly pulled the gun out and opened fire in the high school cafeteria. He got off two shots before he was placed in a bear hug by gutsy guidance counselor Jesse Wasmer who held him until cops arrived, witnesses said.
Police have not given a motive for the mayhem that left a 17-year-old Daniel Borowy hospitalized in critical condition with a bullet to his back. Investigators insist Gladden was not gunning for anybody in particular. But Gladden’s dad, Robert, told the Associated Press that their son had been bullied in high school.
“We are horrified,” a relative said on behalf of the parents. “We did not see this coming and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and the victim’s family.”
“If Wasmer wasn't there, imagine what would have happened,” a grateful student posted on Twitter. “Thank God for him.”
When will the media stop looking for scapegoats when dysfunctional people decide to go postal? Aggressive music does not lead to violent actions, if anything if prevents violent actions. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims family and friends.

All-Star Band CHICKENFOOT To Re-Release Debut Album With Live Bonus Tracks!
Having established themselves in record time as one of the earth’s premier Rock bands with their Gold-certified self-titled debut, CHICKENFOOT will be re-releasing their self-titled, 'Chickenfoot,' as a deluxe double disc version on October 16th, 2012. Frontman Sammy Hagar comments:
"Chickenfoot 1 will always be special to me for exactly what it is. Our former label went out of business and the album had been discontinued. You could not find the album anywhere, which is crazy! We got the masters back and our NEW label will re-release the 1st album and we thought we should include some live tracks from 'Chickenfoot lll'.”
The release will feature live tracks recorded on the "Different Devil" tour this past spring while supporting their latest record, "Chickenfoot III."
DISC 1:
Avienda Revolution
Soap On A Rope
Sexy Little Thing

Get It Up
Down The Drain

CHICKENFOOT released 'Chickenfoot III' late last year to much critical praise. "It's hard to hate big-boned butt Rock from guys clearly making it because they still love the form," said ROLLING STONE.
BILLBOARD said, “It’s a rare case of a group that’s equal to – or perhaps even greater than – the sum of its parts…this is an album that really wins hearts with its granite thump’n’roll.” USA TODAY went as far to say that "Chickenfoot III" could be "the beginning of a riff-driven renaissance."
In addition to a GRAMMY Nomination for "Best Recording Package," "Chickenfoot III" saw two top five singles on the Classic Rock charts with "Big Foot" and "Different Devil."

Randy Blythe Needs Our Help: LAMB OF GOD Launch eBay Memorabilia Auction For Blythe's Defense Fund!
While LAMB OF GOD singer Randy Blythe is back home in America after five weeks in prison in the Czech Republic, his legal problems are far from over. Manslaughter charges are still hanging over Blythe and at some point over the next few months he will have to return to Prague and stand trial. Faced with continuing massive legal bills, LAMB OF GOD has decided to create an eBay auction of equipment and memorabilia to raise money for Randy’s legal bills. All equipment was either used on tour or in the recording studio or in a video. The auction features items provided by all five members of LAMB OF GOD.
In addition, a number of musicians have offered equipment to be used in the auction. Guitars have been donated by Machine Head’s Robb Flynn and Phil Demmel as well as Slash and Five Finger Death Punch. Megadeth’s David Ellefson and Five Finger Death Punch’s Chris Kael have each contributed a bass and the members of Five Finger Death Punch also have contributed a signed skateboard.
Justice Now, the site set up for donations, will remain open for those wishing to donate to Randy’s defense fund. The band appreciates all of the support Randy has received since his arrest on June 28th and is thankful for all of the donations that have been made in these tough economic times. As stated before, without the fans, there is no LAMB OF GOD.
As previously reported, LAMB OF GOD is busy rescheduling a canceled U.S. tour for October. According to Lambgoat, the first announced date of the tour, in Phoenix, AZ at Comerica Theater on October 30th. Unfortunately, DETHKLOK and GOJIRA won't be joining LAMB OF GOD this time around. But get this: HATEBREED, IN FLAMES and SYLOSIS will be part of what promises to be an epic tour. More details coming soon!

Tragedy Strikes The New York City Heavy Music Scene: Rock In Peace Harry Dullys!
This past weekend, the New York City Heavy Music scene was struck by tragedy when news about the passing of Harry Dullys surfaced throughout the internet. Harry who was of Haitian descent, was a HUGE influence on all of the local music community as not only a devoted fan and supporter of all things related to the scene, but he truly represented the essence of this ever-growing scene through the music he wrote with his band FATE STRIKES TWICE!
Harry was also devoted to making people healthier as a fitness instructor (he worked at REEBOK Sports Club). He was also a joyful guy who was always encouraging others to better themselves. His words of wisdom were always accompanied by a radiant smile and an addictive laugh. We got the chance to see Harry dominate the stage various times, and there is no question that he is crushing it up in heaven! Our hearts go out to Harry's family, friends and all of the fans of FATE STRIKES TWICE.
So what happened to Harry?
According to the ST. JOHN VALLEY Times: "The body of a missing man, believed to have drowned, has been recovered.
"At approximately 4:30 p.m. yesterday, the Maine Warden Service was called to search for a missing swimmer on East Grand Lake.
"Harry Dullys, 39, of New York, NY was staying with his wife at a camp on Moon Island in Danforth. This area of East Grand Lake is the southern portion of the lake known as “the arm.”
"Dullys was attempting to swim to Loon’s Nest Island, a distance of about 200 yards, according to a press release from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
"Dullys had been swimming with a labrador retriever. Dullys’ wife noticed the dog continuing to the island but Dullys could not be seen, the warden service reported. Numerous game wardens and a Warden Service aircraft responded to the scene and conducted a search for Dullys.
"Late in the evening, utilizing side-scan sonar technology, wardens identified what they believed to be Dullys’ body.
"At daybreak today, numerous members of the Maine Warden Service Dive Team conducted a dive operation and recovered Dullys’ body in 19 feet of water near Moon Island. The body was turned over to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
"The Maine Warden Service was assisted at the scene by Downeast EMS, Danforth Fire, and Maine Guide Mark Danforth."
Here is one of Harry's last performances with this band FATE STRIKES TWICE:
If there is one thing that everyone can learn from Harry, is that life is too short to waste it away! Follow your passion and don't let anyone slow you down. And if they do, just give them the middle finger!
Harry: we thank you for everything you did for the entire Heavy Music scene! Rock in PEACE, and rest assured that we will not let your flame be extinguished! \m/

ANTHRAX Featured On Google Play's "Audiobiography" Series!
Thrash Metal masters ANTHRAX and what is arguably the band's signature album, 'Among the Living, will be featured on Google Play's "Audiobiography" series starting today. ANTHRAX's Scott Ian and Joey Belladonna recently pulled back the curtain exclusively for Google Play, discussing at length stories behind the making of their Gold-certified 1987 album that includes some of the band's most popular tracks - "I Am The Law," "Indians," and Caught in a Mosh." Log onto http://bit.ly/Opbo3T to check it out.
The "Audiobiography" feature launches in tandem with a special catalog sale of some of Anthrax's best-loved albums: 'Spreading the Disease' (1985), 'Among The Living' (1987), 'I'm the Man EP' (1987), 'State of Euphoria' (1988), 'Persistence of Time' (1990), 'Attack of the Killer Bs' (1991), 'We've Come for You All' (2003), 'Caught in a Mosh: BBC Live in Concert' (2007), and the band's most recent release, the critically-acclaimed 'Worship Music' (2011). All albums are priced at $6.99; two tracks, "Indians" and "Madhouse," are available for only $.49, while "Caught In A Mosh" is being offered as a free download.
'Among the Living' was released at a time when the Thrash Metal genre was exploding - Metallica's 'Master of Puppets', Slayer's 'Reign In Blood' and Megadeth's 'Peace Sells' had just hit the streets, birthing what came to be known as The Big Four. The cover art for 'Among the Living' is an original painting that some say features a rendition of the maleficent Rev. Henry Kane from the "Poltergeist" films. As the band's Charlie Benante explained, "the album is basically about Good and Evil...how much evil there is among us."
As previously reported, thanks to NASA, ANTHRAX is the first Metal band to ever have its music played on Mars. Read more about this story HERE!

KING DIAMOND Talks About Undergoing Heart Surgery, NEW Music & More!
This past weekend, King Diamond was the special guest on
Full Metal Jackie’s radio show. Diamond talked about his experience with having triple bypass surgery, recovering from
it and how it will be “woven” into an upcoming album. King Diamond also
talked about some interesting encounters he has had with the
supernatural and much more. Here are a few excerpts of the interview (courtesy of Loudwire.com)
First I want to talk to you about your health because your first performance after triple bypass surgery was a year later with Merciful Fate during Metallica’s run of anniversary shows. Was that overwhelming – not just Metallica acknowledging your influence but that you were healthy enough to be there?
I didn’t even know if I was going to be able to do it. It was a tough round of course with rehab and a lot of changes in your life. I cut out cigarettes completely, had to do it, haven’t had a drag since a year and a half ago so changing of the diet, working out more and all this stuff. I have totally changed, I can also see in my body how everything has changed for the better.
The first thing was, three months after, they’re pretty tough on you. The surgeon said after ten days I was home from the hospital – first day he said you got to go out and walk half a mile and are you serious? I can barely stand up, I had to have help to get out of a chair, everything was totally weird but that it how they do it. One week later I was doing a mile, so you’re pushed out there and you almost feel like you shouldn’t be here, that you’ve been given a second chance but it’s strange.
I had to literally ask my wife when we were walking if she could really see me and feel me that I was actually there and not as a joke but really I had to have that confirmed so many times and that faded slowly down the road. Eventually I got the chance three months after the surgery I got to go down to say “Hi” to some friends, cool guys that also work in a band called Volbeat and met them during the day and got the chance to get up onstage during their sound check and that made everything in my chest rattle. It felt so bad I had to get out of there that was then. Six months after that I got to go see what was going on with Metallica – that was actually a year after with Metallica – but still I did not know what was going on.
My surgeon said everything in my chest looked good and it was back together well, ‘cause they saw you open and open you like a double door practically and then when they put it back together I saw for the first time an x-ray. A month or two before going to Metallica’s anniversary I had like a braided metal rod, sitting all the way down and that’s what was tying together the rib cage and had then had the rib cage screwed together around that. It’s amazing what they do but the whole thing of learning how to breathe again was pretty hard, breathing is completely different now. The voice is a million times better it’s like if I finally got to experience what it’s like to drive a brand new car and always use to have used cars for instance. That’s how my voice feels now, it’s easier to sing all the things than ever before and it sounds clearer all because of the no smoking.
It’s so much better and easier but getting up onstage that afternoon of the show and see what the loud sounds and the vibrations are going to do to me this time. Am I gonna tell them it’s not gonna work and I have to fly back? That was a possibility. So that was a pretty anxious moment when they turned the sound up and I felt nothing, no different and that’s what my surgeon had told me a month or two before when I saw the x-rays and all that stuff. He cleared me for doing it so I did that and it worked and that was quite a big relief but there are so many other things that you have to go through.
Three months later I had a benefit that I participated in and sang three songs with some local musicians, two King Diamond songs and one Mercy and that was even better so it was like “Wow this is going to be really interesting, it might be time to see if we can do a couple full shows.” That’s what we did two months ago and we did more than that actually because the rehearsals for it. We hadn’t been playing together in a long, long time so I had a theater in Denmark and we rehearsed there for a week and in six days I did five full shows practically – had a day off then did Sweden Rock and no problems. The breathing and moving around on this new production which is really big, we’ve never had a production that big before and running around that set, not feeling out of breath at all was very new and very nice to experience.
Now these last tests have been done and they went perfect so no it’s a matter of getting out there. We are arranging for everything now, setting everything up the right way. We have a new internet store for the first time and I know the fans for good reason have been haunting us for this stuff because it’s embarrassing, we’ve been so sloppy with that stuff of course for our own sake too you can certainly make some money off it to which is good for business because we like to turn around and invest a lot of it too. The money we made from these festivals and we invested the whole thing into the production.
We’re already getting invitations for other festivals next summer and I see us touring Europe, festival appearances maybe even doing one before that here in the U.S. and then I hope we can do the U.S.and do shows, not club shows but with the full production maybe sometime in Oct. We’ll see because they’re working on all this stuff. For the U.S. we’re just about to set up with a brand new agent over there so that’s going to be a powerhouse and doing things a whole different way. I would say a much bigger scale, same lineup that we’ve had for years so it’s all good and there will be new music too down the road. It won’t be too long before we start writing some new stuff so yeah a lot of stuff very busy. I’m trying to not be too busy because stress is not a friend of mine anymore.
Now being more conscious of your health, how has having triple bypass surgery been a life changing event for you?
Oh man, you have no idea. [Laughs] There are so many things that go into it, just the way you look at life afterwards is certainly different. It’s not like you become born again or anything life changing in that respect, I’m totally the same person. The best way to explain it is actually – let’s say I’m here at my house and I look out of the windows and now and then I see things through those windows – now it’s like I have the double amount of windows. I see so much more, I pay attention to so many more things – the smelling sensation, the taste sensation are enhanced by a hundred because I don’t smoke anymore.
Taking walks sometimes bring back memories of my childhood because a smell might trigger a memory. For instance a wooden fence, I walked by and I smelled it and suddenly I’m with my parents who are dead now, and with my brother on a vacation in Norway when we were kids and we’re walking the Viking ships somewhere, they’ve been sprayed by this special mist to preserve them and it just triggers memories like that suddenly. It’s different, you’re more alert, more aware, I don’t take anything for granted anymore, I’ll tell you that. If I’m not here tomorrow well so be it, I don’t want that but I’m much more prepared for that kind of scenario now.
It is weird but also the feeling in the beginning of not knowing “Can you see me? Can you feel when I do this?” and my wife is like “Hey, why are you being weird now?” You see people drive to work and we’re out walking after the operation and you get that feeling of “Man I could have just as well not have been here.” Then there’s all the stuff that comes with it, the hardship of you can’t lift a cup, you can’t get out of a chair, you can’t do anything. When they cut you up all the nerves are trying to find each other again and they still are today. You get these little pains here and there but I’ve been told it’s going to go on for years.
The thing about them having punctured your lungs is that you have to learn to breathe again, it’s a very, very weird feeling. I couldn’t drive or doing anything in the beginning of course. I love driving cars so I went behind the wheel before I was allowed to do it. It was a matter of not being able to move around the steering wheel properly with your arms but it’s just these things that – I want to move on I don’t want to just sit in a chair and that was the same thing in the hospital, two days after the operation I was up walking around with the help of a nurse of course. Then when they set me free from that, I was off to a normal department to continue to get better.
It was also the more you walked the sooner you’ll get out of there and I was walking day and night. It reminded me of lyrics from ‘The Graveyard’ for instance, walking the halls at night, no one was up it was just me walking these empty halls – such strange feelings but I can tell you I brought so much with me out of there for the next album.
I got some of the ultimate horrors waking up from the operation, was the worst I’ve ever experienced in my life but when I came to a little bit, my wife was there but I couldn’t see her. What I saw was only in black and white and I saw doctors leaning in over me, it could have been in a spaceship if they exist. They didn’t look quite human, it looked weird and then I started remembering that they told me “You will be on a breathing tube and very uncomfortable.” You want to try and breathe on your own but you can’t because you are forced to breathe in a certain way and you can try and give signals to these doctors to let them know that you can breathe on your own but you don’t know if you can, you have to learn breathing again.
When I came to I was desperately trying to signal something but it was like I couldn’t communicate, I had this tube in my mouth, I couldn’t do anything, I was blinking my eyes, trying anything. I think panic was striking and I tried to pull this tube out of my own mouth and then they came in and tied me down to the bed, they grabbed my hands and my legs and they tied me down. That feeling of being tied down and not being able to communicate, I felt horror, I felt like I was being choked to death slowly because I couldn’t breathe properly. I got so far out, had they been able to hear me they would have heard me begging them to please kill me because it felt that bad. I just really wished for them to kill me to end it.
Then you wake up later on and find the wife is there and it’s like “Wow you pulled through.” I was on the operating table for seven and a half hours and I was on two days back to back. The first day they had to do an operation for four hours, the day before, where they go in your thigh through a vein – you’re actually totally alert. That went well but it looked bad and it had something to do with the way its been in my family so it was hereditary.
They said I couldn’t have gotten such bad figures in my blood even if I tried eating the worse stuff and smoking 50 cigarettes a day, could not have given me that. I never really ate bad stuff but there’s a lot of things you find out afterwards now that I’ve been through meetings with nutritionists and my wife has become an expert on this stuff. You find out seafood is great right, not shrimp, that thing has the most cholesterol I didn’t know that before. Yeah it’s a weird thing but it hasn’t changed anything of my being the way I am, how I think, it’s just broaden my horizon, big time.
You mentioned new music earlier, will everything that has happened find its way into this new music?
Oh I’m sure. [Laughs] I’m sure there will be a lot of that stuff that I experienced that will be woven into a new album. It not be a story of what I experienced but the feelings behind it, those will come across maybe in other ways. There has been so much in the old albums too, throughout the career much more than anyone will ever know is real or real feelings behind it then you add something to it, to make the story fluent. There are so many more things in the stories and sometimes I really felt like “Oh man, you’re showing way to much of yourself here ” and then I’ll think “Well no one’s going to know if I don’t tell them.” It will be a lot of that here too, it might hit home for a lot of people maybe even deeper than before.
