We believe that there is nothing more Rock N' Roll than helping others out. Specially if it involves a charity devoted to music education. This is exactly what 'Six-String Masterpieces' does. But this is not just another charity, 'Six-String Masterpieces' is a charitable art exhibition featuring an impressive collection of Dean Electric Guitars that have been hand-painted, illustrated and sculpted by leading musicians and contemporary visual artists.
Artists who have donated their talents to paint guitars for this exhibit include Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, Kerry King of Slayer, Les Claypool of Primus, Bret Michaels, Scott Ian of Anthrax, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, Mark Dean Veca, Erik Foss, Jon Davis & Munky of KORN, Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, Shawn Barber, renowned tattoo artists Aaron Cain and Filip Leu, and many more.
In order to make this happen, Mesa Contemporary Arts has partnered with curator Curse Mackey and exhibit sponsor Dean Guitars to revive this very special exhibition, unveiling newly painted guitars alongside select works from the original show.
With over $200,000 raised thus far, 'Six-String Masterpieces' continues to evolve as an ongoing charitable exhibition that serves to raise awareness and support for music education and carries a message of anti-violence with its dedication to one of rock music's greatest and most beloved guitar players, Dimebag Darrell Abbott. All proceeds from Six-String Masterpieces benefit Little Kids Rock, one of America’s top music education charities.
'Six-String Masterpieces' debuted at the 2006 NAMM Convention in Anaheim, CA and toured throughout the U.S. in 2006 and 2007. The exhibit was a popular feature of the 2006 Ozzfest and Family Values Tours with several thousands concert goers per day lining up to see the guitars. It was featured on MTV's Headbangers Ball and was the subject of a special issue of Guitar Player Magazine dedicated entirely to this groundbreaking exhibit.
The original collection of 60 painted guitars was auctioned at an all-star benefit event at House of Blues Hollywood in May of 2007. The auction generated nearly $200,000 in support of Little Kids Rock, one of America's highest rated music education organizations.
The opening on Sept. 9th at Mesa Contemporary Arts will be the first time that the guitar painted by Ozzy Osbourne has ever been shown in the United States. It has previously only been seen at the Museo De La Ciudad De Mexico, one of the finest museums in Mexico City.
This is a rare opportunity to see some favorite names in music and art apply their talents to a completely different medium while raising money and awareness for the next generation of artists and musicians. Here are the details:

Arch Enemy to Team Up with Amnesty International for upcoming North American Tour!
Sweden’s outspoken and influential Heavy Metal band, Arch Enemy, has joined forces with the worldwide human rights organization, Amnesty International, to help raise awareness of social injustices around the world. Amnesty International booths will be present at many of the upcoming dates on Arch Enemy’s headlining US tour, “North American Khaos 2011,” to hand out flyers and accept fans’ signatures in support of the cause. This is what Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy's front-woman) had to say about this.
“We have invited Amnesty International to join us on the ‘North American Khaos’ tour to help raise awareness for defending human rights, freedom of speech and saving lives. We are living in very extreme and turbulent times and it is important to take a stand. We hope one day everybody is allowed to freely say what they think, that no government has the right to punish and kill those who do not conform and that those who are oppressing the masses will be brought to justice. It will be a long and hard struggle, but it’s a goal worth fighting for. The metal scene is non-conformist, alternative and revolutionary – We know how to practice what others preach. So let’s go out there and support the cause! Go to www.amnesty.org for more info or check out their booth at some of our shows!”
The supporting bands on the tour have also joined in on the fight. Chthonic added, “Freedom to create is the fundamental to artist’s dignity as freedom of speech is the fundamental to human rights for all human beings. We should fight for those who are denied these privileges in other parts of the world so that they will be entitled to these rights one day.”
The "North American Khaos 2011" will kick off in Baltimore on September 8th and will conclude in Chicago on October 4th. Supporting Arch Enemy on the North American leg of the band’s World tour will be DevilDriver, Skeletonwitch and Chthonic.
Arch Enemy is touring in support of Khaos Legions, the band’s first collection of new material since 2007. The highly anticipated album sold around 6,000 copies in its first week, good for #78 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

Ministry Reunites & Announces US "Relapse" Tour!
Ministry is without a doubt the band to blame for the rise of Industrial Metal. The band was formed in 1981 in Chicago, Illinois. In 2008, after 17 years of musical madness, Ministry decided to call it quits and were joined by Swedish Metal machines Meshuggah for a North American farewell tour. After only three years apart, the band decided to reunite. In order to celebrate this great news, the band has announced some US dates for 2012!
Lead by founder Al Jourgensen, the reunited Ministry will also be performing at next year’s Wacken Festival in Germany (August 2-4, 2012). Additionally, Jourgensen told Metal Hammer in August 2011 that Ministry has been working on a new album called Relapse, which they hope to release by Christmas. Regarding the sound of the new material, he explained, "We've only got five songs to go. I've been listening to it the last couple of weeks and I wasn't really in the mood, I was just taking it as a joke. Just to pass the time at first but [Mikey's] raving about it. It's like, dude c'mon, this is not about Bush, so… that parts over. The ulcers are gone and Bush is gone so it's time for something new. I think this is actually gonna wind up being the fastest and heaviest record I've ever done. Just because we did it as anti-therapy therapy against the country music we would just take days off and thrash faster than I've done in a long time, faster than Mikey's done in a long time. He just did a Rigor Mortis tour and said it was easy compared to this Ministry stuff so it's gonna be brutal and it's gonna freak a lot of people out." (Source: Wikipedia)

Doro Pesch's Long Beach Home Destroyed by Hurricane Irene!
The very talented and beautiful Doro Pesch, flew from Düsseldorf, Germany (Doro's hometown) to New York City, three days after Hurricane Irene caused plenty of damage within the East Coast of the United States. Upon her arrival to her second home in Long Beach (a city built right by the Atlantic Ocean), instead of her beautiful house on the beach, Doro encountered her home completely destroyed.
"The damage is disastrous, the whole ground floor was flooded. It stinks, electricity failed and everything's wrecked inside of the house. From the TV to the fridge to the furniture. Everything's grime-stained, defective, unusable. The worst thing is that pieces of my stage costumes and lots of my souvenirs and presents from fans from all around the world are lost forever now."
Since the show must go on, Doro announced that despite the damage to her house her very special performance at the Gramercy Theater in New York City on Friday, September 9, along with the rest of the tour, will go on as planned. The tour is in support of the release of DORO's 25 Years In Rock DVD" (set for release in North America via Nuclear Blast on September 13).
"The shows will take place, of course. For now, I've found accommodation in a hotel in New York and will have to see where things will go from here. I saw the pictures of Irene on TV when I visited my mother in Germany on the weekend. When a red rubber raft appeared canoeing through a road on Long Island, I already assumed the worst."

Slipknot Touring Plans & NEW Album Update!
Ever since the tragic passing of Slipknot's bassist Paul Gray in May of 2010, the future of Slipknot has been one of the biggest mysteries within the Heavy Music world. While the band did make a triumphant return to Europe this summer, where they headlined the Sonisphere Festival show in Knebsworth, England, the remaining members of Slipknot are taking their time and are strategically planning every step the band takes after the passing of # 2.
The big question that every single maggot has is when and if Slipknot is going to record a new album. On a recent interview with Kerrang Magazine vocalist Corey Taylor made it clear that Slipknot is not ready to enter the studio anytime soon.
"It's still too soon. At least that's how I feel. I'm not ready to make a Slipknot album. I think there will be a day when we do. But for me, doing it now wouldn't make sense. You can't do a three-week tour then jump into the studio, especially after something like this. It makes more sense to do a few more tours and reconnect as a band first. If we jumped right in, it wouldn't be about the absence. It would be about the rest of us. We were the nine, but there's a piece missing. We should allow people to pay their respects before we come out with new music. We should do this right."
To this drummer Joey Jordison added:
"We're a family, and losing a family member sucks. But you can't help that, but you need to move on and I think that what we're gonna do might be the most powerful thing that we've ever created."
Slipknot's last record, "All Hope Is Gone", was released in 2008. So for now, we suggest you crank it up, since we are all going to have to wait for a new Slipknot album.
As far as touring plans, both Corey Taylor and Shawn Crahan confirmed last week that Slipknot are planning a US tour for Spring of 2012. Stay tuned for more Slipknot news!

Big 4 in New York Rock City's Yankee Stadium to be a Triumphant, Bittersweet Homecoming for Anthrax
When The Big Four (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax), the four bands that defined the Speed/Thrash/Metal music genre - play Yankee Stadium on September 14, the concert will be a celebratory and emotional experience for the five New York born-and-bred members of Anthrax, the only New York band on the bill. To begin with, Anthrax's hometown gig will be preceded by the 9/13 release of "Worship Music", the band's first new album in eight years, and already called "the Metal album of the year" by numerous music critics.
Drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello, and guitarist Rob Caggiano are all from the Bronx, guitarist Scott Ian was born in Queens, and vocalist Joey Belladonna is an Oswego native.
Bello is a self-proclaimed, diehard Yankees fan who attended games at the original Stadium while growing up. Ian, also a lifelong Yankees fan who frequented Yankees games as a kid, was at the Stadium in '77 when Reggie Jackson hit three home runs in Game 6 of the World Series against the L.A. Dodgers.
"We're a New York band, I'm a crazy Yankee fan, and we're playing Yankee Stadium, those three things add up to a perfect storm of insanity." - Scott Ian
Benante's father, who was scouted by the majors, would regale a four-year-old Charlie with all the stats and facts about the Yankee players while the two played catch in the backyard.
"My dad was a huge Yankees fan, I remember he always had the TV or radio on, listening to every Yankees game he could. He died when I was five, so he never knew about my success as a musician, but I know he would have been so proud of me playing Yankee Stadium. I know that in some way, he'll be there, giving me the power I'll need to knock it out of the park." - Charlie Benante

GWAR's Oderus Urungus Featured on FEARnet's Original Series "Holliston"
Oderus Urungus is always on the lookout for chaotic adventures. As we all know, or should know, he is the very outspoken front man of GWAR. If you think he rattles while he is on stage, you should hear the things that come out of his mouth when he does an interview (see below). In an unprecedented move, Oderus has just been confirmed to be a featured cast member on FEARnet's first original series "Holliston".
Joining Oderus on this new adventure, will be Twisted Sister's Dee Snider as well as stars Adam Green and Joe Lynch on the offbeat multi-camera buddy comedy series created by Green. Described as The Big Bang Theory meets Evil Dead II, the show is set in the town of Holliston, Mass., and follows the lives of Adam (Green) and Joe (Lynch), two friends chasing the dream of becoming successful horror movie filmmakers while struggling to make ends meet in their post-college jobs at a Boston cable access station where they also host a late-night movie program called The Movie Crypt. Urungus will play himself and is Adam's "imaginary" friend who happens to live in a closet and gives him advice that is extremely misguided and offensive. The six-episode series is slated to begin production in September.
"I am pleased beyond belief that the human race, and FEARnet, has finally recognized my acting ability and hired me as the star of Holliston. With Dee Snider on the cast, it's essential to have somebody that brings class to the proceedings... that class is me." - Oderus Urungus
In other GWAR news, don't forget that 2nd Annual Crack-A-Thon will be taking place this weekend (Friday September 2nd and Saturday September 3rd) at the MF Gallery in Brooklyn, New York. There will be two shows nightly that will be streamed live. You can purchase tickets below.
The GWAR-B-Q is a little bit over three weeks away. Events at the GWAR-B-Q include the "American A-Hole Contest", Spew Olympics, live performances from GWAR, Darkest Hour and many more. GWAR is pleased to announce that for all the Bohabs that will be travelling to Richmond, that they have set up special camping and hotel offers. Anthrax to Perform "Secret" Show in Celebration of 'Worship Music'!
The world is patiently waiting for Anthrax to unleash their 10th studio album on September 13: the day before the band plays The Big 4 show at Yankee Stadium. "Worship Music" also marks the return of Joey Belladonna on vocals, who is singing with Anthrax for the first time since 1990's "Persistence of Time". In anticipation to the release of their first record in eight years, the band has announced that they will be performing a "secret" show at New York City's Best Buy Theater. This very special event will take place on September 12, 2011, one day before "Worship Music" is released to the entire world.
In a very smart marketing move and in order to boost record sales, fans get access to this "secret" show by pre-ordering "Worship Music" (see the link below).
Here are some vital statistics about Anthrax's "Worship Music".
\m/ Album: Worship Music (Megaforce/MRI)
\m/ Producer: Jay Ruston with Rob Caggiano
\m/ Release date: September 13, 2011
\m/ Info: Anthrax is one of the four original architects of speed and thrash-metal (with Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth). This year, Anthrax celebrates its 30th anniversary as a band. The band's new album, Worship Music, due out September 13, is its first studio album in eight years, and first with vocalist Joey Belladonna since 1990. Belladonna, an essential part of Anthrax's lineup from 1985 to 1992, sang on sone of the band's most popular albums including Spreading the Disease, Among the Living and Persistence of Time. Things have been heating up with Anthrax since last July when the first Big Four concert played in Bulgaria. The Big Four will play Yankee Stadium on September 14, the day after Worship Music is released. Over its 30 year career, Anthrax has received multiple Gold and Platinum albums, multiple Grammy nominations, and a host of other accolades from the press, industry and fans.
Everyone say "Amen," and Worship Music with Anthrax.

Powerglove Discuss Creative Process & Production of Video for "Batman"!
In times in which too many bands are taking themselves way too seriously, its refreshing to come across a band like Powerglove. Dubbed as a "Videogame Metal" band, the Boston quartet is all about covering videogame songs and turning them into highly technical Heavy Metal. They also add a comical twist by wearing ridiculous costumes on stage, in order to bring their fans that videogame experience while they get their faces melted with some crushing music.
We had personally never seen them live, so we didn't know what to expect when they performed as "special guests" at this years Summer Slaughter Tour. While there is definitely an element of "cheese" Metal, the band comes across as a legit powerhouse of music and even though they do "cover" videogame songs, they take the listener through a sonic roller-coaster that is not for the weak hearted.
We had the chance to chat with drummer Bassil Silver when the Summer Slaughter Tour took over New York City's Irving Plaza. During the conversation we discussed the bands creative process, as well as the production of their new video for their song "Batman". The video was directed by David Brodsky from My Good Eye Productions and its a must see! Actually, you can see parts of the bands new video, on the video interview we did with Powerglove's drummer.
Powerglove is:

- Alex Berkson
- Chris Marchiel

- Metal Kombat for the Mortal Man (2007)
- Saturday Morning Apocalypse (2010)
\m/ Extended plays:
- Total Pwnage (2005)

VREID Issue Tour Update Regarding the "Black Path of America Tour"!
It seems like Norwegian Black Metallers, VREID, brought chaotic weather that can only be matched by their insane blend of ass-kicking music! The band kicked off the Black Path Of America Tour 2011 last week in Toronto accompanied by a series of weather calamities and one canceled show in New York City thanks to Hurricane Irene.
"Our North America tour has been filled with action so far. An earthquake upon arrival, tornadoes as we entered Toronto and then Irene came and shut down our New York show. Mother earth has unleashed her wrath upon us this time around. We are extremely disappointed that our New York show got canceled, but be sure that VREID will return. We kicked ass in Toronto and had a great show; next up was Montreal which was massive. An absolutely fantastic show in all ways. The audience of Montreal has to be one of the most dedicated on this planet. Then we hit Kingston, New York. It was good to see people ignoring the rain and fear of Irene, to come to The Basement to rock like a hurricane. Now we are in Cleveland and ready to give a massive dose of Norwegian metal at Peabody's. We hope the upcoming shows will continue in the same good way as the first three. The audience in North America has once again shown their intense dedication, which makes these shows a blast for us. See you soon." - Bassist Hváll

Sebastian Bach Loses Home to Hurricane Irene
Sebastian Bach is not a happy camper today. During the weekend Hurricane Irene decided to pay Bach's New Jersey home a visit, and as a result his entire home was destroyed, condemned and deemed uninhabitable due to the extreme flooding. Here is a statement the former Skid Row frontman and solo artist (new album, 'Kicking and Screaming,' will be out September 27th via Frontiers Records) made via his Facebook page:
"I am numb, in shock and devastated to report that my home of 21 years, my house featured on MTV 'Cribs', has been destroyed, condemned and deemed uninhabitable due to the extreme flooding courtesy of Hurricane Irene.
"In the two decades I have lived in this home, there has never been a single drop of water in the basement or anywhere else in the structure. Now Irene has overflowed the reservoir adjacent to my house. The surging waters have snapped the bridge in half next to my house and sent the bridge straight into my garage, knocking the house off of its foundation. The basement that has been dry for over two decades is now overflowing with water and I am not even allowed to start pumping the water out due to fears of electrocution.
"Original Skid Row and KISS fans, I have bad news for you. Gone are irreplaceable items, such as my KISS Gargoyles from the 1979 tour. KISS pinball machine. Skid Row master tapes, video and audio, concerts, master tapes from 'Oh Say Can You Scream', etc. Boxes and boxes of one-of-a-kind Skid Row memorabilia, from the first tour to our last, all stuff I collected on the road that no one else had. I had a library in the basement with every single magazine that had Skid Row on the cover. This library took up a big part of the basement. All of this is lost now.
"We will salvage what we can, of course. But how I wish there was a reason to do a box set or something before Hurricane Irene hit. Nobody cared. Now it's too late.
"Don't know what you got till it's gone, indeed.
"The good news is that all of my father's artwork, including the 16-foot 'Slave to the Grind' mural, is all OK. My sons and friends moved all my dad's art to the second level of the structure before Irene destroyed our home. My 'Silver Age' comic collection is all on the third level, with the David Bierk archives, which is a completely dry level. But we are not allowed into the house yet to retrieve everything because the foundation has crumbled and the house could conceivably collapse at any second. We are working with the police and fire department to get the electricity turned off so no one gets electrocuted entering the premises. As soon as the power is off, we will pump out the basement and salvage what we can. Everything will be put into storage and then it looks like we will level the house.
"This has really taught me that the best things in life are indeed 'free.' What makes me happy is that my children and ex-wife are safe. My dad's art is unharmed. No one got hurt. My scrapbooks of memories of my life are dry and safe. The only things that are making me smile today is cranking Black Veil Brides' 'Set The World On Fire' CD over and over again. Texting Danny from Asking Alexandria who may become my new roommate in L.A. Getting texts from my girl Minnie [Gupta] in L.A. making sure I'm OK and trying to cheer me up. My neighbors in New Jersey clamoring around my house, calling me, offering help in any way they can. These things mean more to me than mere possessions.
"I have been holding on to my house since December, when my divorce papers were filed. I just could not let go of the only home I had ever known.
"Well, God has other plans for me it seems. He has made His decision for me.
"My home has been taken away by an 'act of God.' I just think He is giving me a much-needed push, is all.
"New Jersey, thank you all so much for 25 years of rock 'n' roll. It's all over now.
"I will always love New Jersey, but now there is literally nothing left for me here except memories of a past life.
"Hello, Los Angeles. Hello, New Life. Here i am. It's time for a new start.
"Like I have a choice."
