The Queens Metal Meltdown is almost a week away! In case you haven't heard, we have teamed up with Rock Sur Productions and are bringing the Heaviness to Jackson Heights (A.K.A. Little Colombia)! For the first time ever Horns Up Rocks is throwing a show in Queens and we have some spectacular things in store!

The Judas Syndrome: In the modern era of the Heavy Metal genre you find a lot of different styles or sub genres which encompass a multitude of influences from all the Metal music innovators. Taking on what has been done to birth Metal in the 80's and adding to it elements of electronica and modern extreme Metal, The Judas Syndrome aim to take the future of metal by storm.
Raza Odiada is the sonic assault that takes place when a group of guys from Mexico City come to New York City to infect the masses with some pure Mexican Metal! Their mission has always been to get on stage and make people lose their minds with the extreme Death Metal sounds that this band presents.
Slam One Down is famous for keeping the crowd on their toes and very excited thanks to their crisp tight sounding music that is filled with positive Heaviness. Not only do they play their party anthems, but they always throw in a few killer covers like Pantera's "Becoming", Metallica's "Seek and Destroy", and ACDC's "Dirty Deeds", just to name a few.
Scars Of Envy is a New Jersey based Metal band whose purpose is to expel their demons through the music they write in hopes to connect with the listeners and to purvey "A Message of Hope, Through Hostile Expression"!
Viruzy has been at it for many years, while many have come and go, the lineup today has the common goal of creating expressive music that's full of conviction. They are not trying to make music for fame and glory, they just want people to listen to their strong message about all the things that are wrong with today's society.
Black Tears is an Ecuadorian Gothic/Doom Metal band that was born in New York City in 2008. The band has been gaining a lot of fans thanks to their live shows all around the tri-state area. At the moment they are busy recording their demo, which will be distributed internationally.

New York City thrashers The Judas Syndrome decided to risk their reputation for being a hard hitting band, and to cover the song "Judas" by Pop Queen Lady Gaga. While Heavy Music is all about being open minded to new things, we don't think a band that is looking to get signed should be risking their reputation by covering a Pop song, specially when a handful of other artists have already covered Lady Gaga. Why not be original and cover a Heavy Music classic and add a unique flavor to it? Or taking a wise risk like Resolution 15 did when they covered U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and proved that they are phenomenal musicians. Same goes for Slam One Down, who blew everyone's mind at the Horns Up Rocks 1 year anniversary party with their flawless covers of Pantera's "Becoming", ACDC's "Dirty Deeds" and Machine Head's "Davidian".
Some of you may think that we are being too harsh, but the music industry today is not looking for bands that are taking risks without measuring the consequences. Nowadays a record label will only invest in a band that is smart about how they handle their business on and off stage. Our advice to any up and coming band is to think carefully about what you want to represent and what your ultimate goal is. Don't put years of hard work down, by making the wrong moves.
On Saturday November 13, Horns Up Rocks and Jefferson Avenue Productions are joining forces again for a night of Heaviness at the Irish Viking in St. James Long Island. After the success of Hixonfest this past summer, we thought it would be cool to bring the same level of intensity to Long Island. This time around we have a DJ set by Jo Schuftan (founder of Horns Up Rocks), a Sexy Evil Burlesque Show and live performances by:
Endwell: "Endwell formed in Queens, New York in 2003 and started gaining popularity through local shows. After gaining enough experience through various local shows, the band independently recorded and released their first EP titled The Missing Pieces in 2005. The band toured the country for various hardcore bands in support of the new EP and began expanding their fan basis with their energetic live shows. They won a Battle of the Bands, which earned them a spot on the Hellfest bill. Their minor success caught the eye of Bayside's front-man Anthony Raneri. Bayside was signed to Victory Records and suggested to Endwell that they should attempt to get signed to the label.[1] Members of Endwell grew up listening to various Victory bands including Earth Crisis and Hatebreed." You may be thinking that you misread the title of this post. New York Thrash Metal? Many people out there are under the misconception that Thrash Metal is no longer prevalent, specially in New York City. A city known for Hardcore Punk and Hip Hop, but definitely not Thrash Metal. Well, this hasn't stopped this band from going against the grain, something that has been very natural for The Judas Syndrome. So far it has proven to be a very positive move and since the release of their debut album "Underneath Blood Skies", their craft is spreading quickly. We predict a very interesting time for them within the next year.
Their latest album is not only a balls out furious Thrash Metal album, it also represents the power that New York City is known for. The Judas Syndrome features Yankees aficionado Phil Vibez, who is also the former vocalist of Irate. Joining Vibez in his new venture are guitarists Chris Oblivion and Ian "Kunki" Syndrome, bassist Tony Bones, and drummer Tommy "Coney" Warchild. If you know The Judas Syndrome already, you know the impact they leave every time they step on a stage. And if you haven't heard this phenomenal band yet, you will soon!

After their stellar performance at New York City's Gramercy Theater, we had the chance to interview The Judas Syndrome boys about the past, the present and the future of the band. This is what went down.
In 1992 guitarists Matt Baumbach and Mike Kennedy formed Vision of Disorder, joining them were singer Tim Williams, drummer Brendon Cohen and bassist Mike Fleischmann. Soon after the band started jamming, Fleischmann left the band temporarily. The band collectively decided to not bring another bass player on board. Eventually Fleischmann returned to the band, this is when they recorded a few demos and compilations. The response wasn't what they expected, but this didn't matter to the band. They kept working hard on their craft and in 1995 they released their seminal 7" record titled "Still" (released on Striving for Togetherness Records). This album includes the original versions of the songs Through My Eyes and D.T.O.
Around the time when they recorded "Still", they got invited to participate in a documentary about the New York Hardcore scene titled N.Y.H.C. The documentary included live performances from the band, as well as an in depth interview. This helped the band to start creating an underground following, especially within the Long Island Hardcore scene. This was enough for Roadrunner Records to offer the band a major record deal.
In 1996 they released their self-titled album, often referred to as the "green album" because of the artwork on the cover. The album was released by Roadrunner Records' subsidiary label Supersoul, and it was glorified by many old school Hardcore fans for its original sound. As a result Vision of Disorder became a worldwide phenomena.
A few years later the band released their album "Imprint" through Roadrunner Records. The band pushed the envelope and created a heavier album. This made some of old school fans turn their heads away, but it also gained them a new batch of fans. This album is a lot angrier and darker than their first album. It also includes a duet between singer Tim Williams and Phil Anselmo from Pantera, Down, etc. "Imprint" was recorded in only 2 weeks, because that is what was budgeted by Roadrunner Records. As a result the sound is raw, which turned off some fans. This is when the band decided to leave Roadrunner Records.
After years of touring in support of their album "Imprint", Vision of Disorder became somewhat unnoticed within the heavy music world. As a result, they decided to go back to their roots and released "For the Bleeders". The album included 9 demo songs that were re-recorded for this record. The album was released in 1999 through independent label, Go Kart Records.
In 2001 the band decided to explore their sound and wrote "From Bliss to Devastation", an album which singer Tim Williams refers to as "the Wild-card". Released through TVT Records, the album is a blend of Vision of Disorder's signature sound combined with musical elements reminiscent of the Grunge era bands. The album is considered a commercial failure, and the fans where dissapointed at the bands new sound.
In 2002 the band was very frustrated with the treatment they were getting from the record industry and decided to take an extended hiatus. Eventually they disbanded, and singer Tim Williams and guitarist Mike kennedy formed Bloodsimple. Drummer Brendon Cohen and bassist Mike Fleischmann also started a band called Berzerkers and Karnov.
After years apart, the band reunited to play a 3 song mini-set on a show with Bloodsimple and Berzerkers and Karnov. The response was very positive and as a result the band was asked to play the 2006 Super Bowl of Hardore. That summer the band reunited for three shows, which were filmed for a DVD. In 2008 the band reunited again for a few shows, one of those shows took place at the Crazy Donkey in Long Island and the response was huge. On November 11, 2008 Vision of Disorder released their DVD titled "Dead in NY" through Koch Entertainment.
In October 2008 the band announced that they had reunited and that they were working on a new album. According to the band, they are entering the studio on September 9th of this year. The band has already written over 20 songs, and recorded a demo. They plan to record a second demo, which they will send to various record labels. According to Tim Williams, the new songs sound like Imprint, mixed with new sounds and classic Hardcore tones. The band will pick 11 songs to record for their new album. The goal is to release the new album within the next 6 months.
This Friday August 20th, Vision of Disorder will make its impact be felt at The Gramercy Theater here in New York City. Joining them that night will be The Judas Syndrome, Reign Supreme and Incendiary. It will be their first show in New York City since their infamous takeover at Irving Plaza in 2008. On Wednesday February 24th I headed to Santos Party House in the Chinatown section of Manhattan, for a lethal dose of Heavy Metal and Hard Core. What I expected to be a mellow night, turned into a night which proofed to me why I decided to start Horns Up Rocks! It's not just about the music, it's about people from different cultures coming together, indulging ourselves into some Heavy Music while having a good time and throwing the Horns Up.
When I got there at 7:30, there where already some hungry fans waiting for the live music to begin. The first part of the night featured 3 bands: The Judas Syndrome from NYC, Circle of Contempt from Finland and Your Demise from the UK. The Judas Syndrome kicked off the night with a brutal display of well polished Trash Metal, combined with elements of NY Hard Core. Horns Up Rocks caught up with their singer Phil Vibez after their phenomenal set. He told us that they just finished recording their debut album, which will be released sometime in May (Full interview will be posted soon).
The Circle of Contempt where not as lethal as I thought they would be, but they still put on a pretty good show. Finishing the first part of the night was Your Demise, they played a very intimate set with all their members jamming out right on the dance floor. We had a chance to catch up with Jose Mangin from Sirius XM's Liquid Metal and he told us that he showed up just to catch Your Demise on stage, which he had interviewed On Air the previous day on Liquid Metal. Needless to say, Your Demise is a band to watch.
Part 1 of the night was a complete success, with over 50 people rocking out even though the show took place on a Wednesday night at 8:30. As Phil Vibez from The Judas Syndrome said: "It doesn't really matter what time it is, not in Metal!"
