Cam Pipes from 3 INCHES OF BLOOD recently
shared his top 5 tips for being on the road with Digitaltourbus.com. Here a few of those very useful tips:
- The most important thing for touring is being in a band with people you can tolerate to be around.
You might have the most amazing musician on a given instrument, but if
they are an asshole then your touring life is going to be hell. 99% of
touring happens off stage so you need to be able to hang out with
like-minded people. If you’ve never toured before, try doing something
small like a week or two. You may have done tons of shows in your
hometown but nothing will test your band’s limits like the dynamics of
touring.
- Know your place and be respectful. On tour there is a
pecking order. Obey the headliner’s techs and stage manager. Do not eat
any catering until you get the ok from the headliner’s tour manager. Do
not go into the other bands dressing rooms without permission and under
no circumstances do you take ANYTHING on their rider without prior
consent. Bands above you got there for a reason, either because they
caught a break and got some fast tracked success or they did it the old
fashioned way and slugged it out building their fan base over time.
Either way, they draw more people than you and you need to recognize
that. The less greenhorn tendencies you show the better impressions you
will leave on other bands and their crew and that will result in getting
other tour opportunities in the future.

Philip Anselmo Is Not Happy About The Super Bowl Coming To New Orleans, Find Out Why!
Last year, when Artisan News spoke with Philip Anselmo (PANTERA, DOWN) about his favorite NFL team the NOLA Saints, Anselmo said that because of bountygate and botched suspensions he's got no love for the NFL, comissioner Roger Goodell, and the Super Bowl in his city (scheduled to take place this Saturday, 2/3).
Here is what Anselmo had to say at the time:
As previously
reported, Anselmo and Housecore Records thrashers WARBEAST have released a
NEW split album entitled 'War of the Gargantuas'. The split, which is a
total tease, includes two songs from each artist. This album serves as
the first release of any solo work by Anselmo. Also, the two WARBEAST
tracks on the split feature former bassist Alan Bovee before his
amicable departure from the band. Since then, Dre Karst has joined on
bass. Get it HERE!

haarp Is Ready To Jam With DOWN; NEW Album Due Out In September!
New Orleans Metallers, haarp, will embark on an eight-date journey next month supporting DOWN. Set to commence on September 21 in Saint Louis, Missouri, the band will bring their sonic wreckage through the Midwest and down the East Coast, coming to a close on September 29 in Sayreville, New Jersey. See confirmed dates below.
haarp will be touring in support of their soon-to-be-unleashed 'Husks' full-length. Set for release on September 18, 2012 through Housecore Records, the follow-up to 2010’s 'The Filth' was recorded at the University of New Orleans Performing Arts Center, Fountainbleau Room 7011, and Nodferatu’s Lair by Philip H. Anselmo, engineered by Steve Berrigan and Nathan Weidenhaft and mastered at Visceral Sounds by Scott Hull.
Said HeavyPlanet in an early review of the three-song beast: “Planting their feet as sludge Metal gods, haarp take their time trimming the fat and let the truth simmer. Between the sludge barrages and atmospheric back roads is tempered, expertly-timed black gold. The band's proficient but patient approach is lined with beautifully rich and vile vision. Husks isn't merely another NOLA sludge-Metal record; it's a sonic catapult for a band wholly deserving of every accolade they accrue. Take a walk through these rotting woods and sink with your sorrow. When the animals finally smell your stink, haarp will be waiting.” Adds Metal Underground: “This album is very balanced, as its some of the heaviest stuff ever made, but with those tones of airiness and ambiance that lift it up just enough…. Quite possibly haarp's best album.”

haarp tour 2012 with Down:

- 9/25/2012: House of Blues Boston in Boston, MA
- 9/26/2012: Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA
- 9/27/2012: Mojo Main in Newark, DE
- 9/28/2012: Best Buy Theater in New York, NY
- 9/29/2012: Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ
Due to unforeseen events which occurred late in the summer of 2005, members of various disbanded projects came together to forge haarp. Featuring a collective of New Orleans grindcore, punk, and metal scene alumni, haarp embody the murk, decay, and oppression associated with their home city. haarp’s music is a visceral wall of low-end sound; its lyrics a journey through despair, hatred, self loathing, and aggression. haarp will be decimating a city near you. Further details to be announced in the coming days.
