David Alan "Riki" Rachtman can be blamed for helping to revitalize the Heavy Music scene in the 90s. Every Saturday night in the early 1990's, there was a wonderful show called Headbangers Ball, hosted by Rachtman, that highlighted the heaviest, most intense and popular Heavy Music bands in the music scene.
Not only did Rachtman host MTV's Headbangers Ball during its prime era, but he has also been an ambassador to Hard Rock and Heavy Metal ever since. At present time, Rachtman hosts a NASCAR-themed radio show called Racing Rocks (heard on over 120 stations across America) and Nascar 24/7 Live. While Rachtman is not actively working in the Heavy Music scene today, he is still a huge fan of our music.
Recently, Rachtman called out Mustaine for treating him differently depending on the situation. When Mustaine and Rachtman would hang out, Mustaine acted like a friend. But when Mustaine was alone, he would talk smack about Rachtman in public (read more HERE).
Since we all love to hear about Mustaine's controversial ways, we decided to get Rachtman on the phone and let him explain exactly what happened. During a very honest interview, all of a sudden we started discussing the untimely death of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott (whose 8th death anniversary is today) and the connection of such a horrible incident with the current legal battle that LAMB OF GOD's Randy Blythe is currently facing.
Without further due, here is our exclusive interview with Riki Rachtman.

MTV Responds To Allegations That 'Headbangers Ball' Is Being Cancelled - Statement Available!
As previously reported, Jose Mangin (Sirius XM) exclusively told us that the folks behind MTV2.com are shutting down Headbangers Ball for good. In response, MTV released the following statement to SPIN:
"MTV is committed to the 'Headbangers Ball' franchise and can confirm that it will continue as an online destination with its hub remaining on MTV2.com. The company's deal with Jose Mangin has concluded. However, MTV will continue to program a weekly playlist for fans of the genre."
Our guess is that they will have music video playlists on their online platform. Isn't that what YouTube is for?
Thankfully, Jose has announced the formation of Hard Attack TV! Hard Attack TV will take Jose's vision to a whole new level of confidence and power! While it will pick up from where HIS Headbangers Ball was left off, Hard Attack TV will offer viewers all over the world a variety of super fresh programming. What type of programming? Well, here is an exclusive interview we conducted with Jose at the recent PHILM show at Dingbatz in Clifton, New Jersey, where Jose spills it all out. Check it out and spread the word!

On Tuesday, April 11, 2012, the GRAMMY Museum® in cooperation with Revolver Magazine, debutted a major NEW exhibition, called: Golden Gods: The History of Heavy Metal. Through rare artifacts from iconic Metal bands and interactive experiences, the exhibit is a lesson about the origins of Heavy Metal, its many sub-genres, the bands that made Heavy Metal famous and offer a look into the controversy that has surrounded the genre for the past four decades.
This historical event was launched on the same day as the REVOLVER Golden Gods Award Show, which took place next door at Club Nokia at L.A. This is the first major museum exhibition to explore Heavy Metal in America, and the genre’s impact across the globe. Visitors will enjoy a wide-array of items, including:

\m/ Stage props from bands such as Alice Cooper, Iron Maiden, Slayer and more;
\m/ An interactive “scream booth,” designed to introduce Metal vocal technique;
\m/ Several famous guitars including Chuck Schuldiner’s (DEATH) B.C. Rich Stealth;

We were there to witness this amazing moment for OUR music. During our visit to the first-ever museum devoted to Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, we had our camera's rolling in order to show you a virtual tour of the museum. We also had the chance to chat with Phil Soussan (ex-OZZY OSBOURNE, RONNIE JAMES DIO, BILLY IDOL, VINCE NEIL BAND & More), Jose Mangin (Sirius XM, Headbangers Ball, Latination) and Dean Schachtel (DIO's right hand man). 2010 Recap with Jose Mangin
When we were planning our end of the year recap, we had a full bag of ideas. However, the last thing we wanted to do was to use old content, simply because this is the formula that most media outlets use. Luckily, we were able to create exactly what we think you deserve. We truly believe that this is the best recap you will see when it comes to Heavy Metal in 2010. Here at Horns Up Rocks we've been very lucky to be at the right place, at the right time. As a matter of fact, the majority of our content was gathered with a simple formula: connect with the artist, be honest with the artist, and never script the interviews. This is a skill we learned from the "Voice of Metal": Jose Mangin from Sirius XM Liquid Metal and MTV's Headbangers Ball!
And who better then Jose to tell you about the most important moments in Heavy Metal in 2010, the most important albums, the Most Valuable Players, and even some pretty cool behind the scene moments!
With this video, which will be our last one for 2010, we want to wish you all an amazing 2011 and remember to keep the Horns WAY Up! Be safe, because we need every single one of you in the Army of Chaos! And remember: If it's getting too loud, you are getting too old!
Special thanks to Jose Mangin for his endless support and for keeping Heavy Music stronger than all for over 10 years! \m/

Fear Factory: 2010 the year of Fear
2010 marks the return of the kings of industrial Heavy Metal: Fear Factory. Even though Fear Factory has been an active band during the last few years, once guitarist Dino Cazares left the band in 2002 due to indifference's with vocalist Burton C. Bell, the Factory was missing its riffmanufacturer and the fans knew that something was not right.
At the time when Cazares left the band, it was uncertain if Fear Factory would continue its legacy. After a short hiatus Burton C. Bell decided to continue Fear Factory with drummer Raymond Herrera and bassist Christian Olde Wolbers, who took over guitar duties. As a result, Fear Factory hired Byron Stroud (formerly from Strapping Young Lad) as bassist.
Fast forward to April 2009 when Burton C. Bell and Dino Cazares rejoined forces and decided to work on a new Fear Factory album. Bell decided to fire Herrera and Olde Wolbers because of personal differences. Fans where shocked at first, but once Bell hired master skins man Gene Hoglan, the excitement for the new Fear Factory took over the Heavy Metal community.
Released on February 9th of this year, Mechanized is a hard hitting extremely powerful album. As Bell mentioned during his interview on Sirius XM's Liquid Metal with Jose Mangin, "it's definitely Fear Factory at its finest, and as Dino coined the term: its the future of a classic."
I personally haven't stopped listening to Mechanized and what I like the most is it's fresh heaviness. The entire album takes you into an uncertain destination, the Fear Factory destination. Ladies and gentleman prepare for mechanization with Fear Factory 2010!
Here is the "Mechanize" track list:
01. Mechanize
02. Industrial Discipline
03. Fear Campaign
04. Powershifter
05. Christploitation
06. Oxidizer
07. Controlled Demolition
08. Designing The Enemy
09. Metallic Division
10. Final Exit
