SEPULTURA Documentary "Teaser" Featuring Philip Anselmo & Scott Ian!

As previously reported, SEPULTURA are calling all the members of the tribe, in order to help them out with the production of the official SEPS documentary. Here is a word from the band:

"We are starting Kickstarter at $100,000,00 just to cover some of the production trips, crew, equipment, rights, image releases, taxes, among others, but our ULTIMATE goal is to raise about $1,000,000.00 to cover the remainder of the production. Anticipated outlays include travel expenses for interviews with former band members and music biz luminaries, as well as all the post production costs, including killer graphics and global distribution to the broadest possible extent."

The band has just posted a teaser featuring Philip Anselmo (PANTERA, DOWN) and Scott Ian (ANTHRAX):

SOULFLY Announce NEW Label Home; Terry Date To Produce Next Album!

In not very surprising news, SOULFLY have parted ways with their longtime record label/home Roadrunner Records and have signed a NEW deal with Nuclear Blast Entertainment. This label move is the perfect and obvious one for SOULFLY as Nuclear Blast Entertainment is headed by former Roadrunner Senior VP of A&R, Monte Conner and Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger.

Later this month, SOULFLY will be entering the recording studio with producer legendary producer Terry Date (Pantera, Deftones).

"I’m really excited to be signing Soulfly to Nuclear Blast Records. On top of it, we’re going to be reunited with Monte Conner who I’ve worked with for over 20 years at Roadrunner. Soulfly‘s new album is going to be recorded in Seattle with the great producer Terry Date, and it’s going to come out later in the year through Nuclear Blast worldwide. Keep it metal!" - Max Cavalera

"It feels so right to be reunited with Max Cavalera. He is the second artist I signed and we’ve made 17 albums together over the years, including several metal classics. Max‘s voice remains just as unique and powerful as the day I met him and I felt the last Soulfly album Enslaved was his strongest work since the band’s Gold-selling debut. I am honored to call him a friend and to continue to be a part of his mission." - Monte Conner (pictured above)

Max Cavalera Will Not Be Part Of NEW SEPULTURA Documentary & Might Have To Take Legal Action!

As announced yesterday HERE, SEPULTURA are calling all the members of the tribe, in order to help them out with the production of the "official" SEPS documentary via Kickstarter.

Right after we heard about this, our first question was whither or not the co-founders of the band (Max and Iggor Cavalera) would be included on this documentary. Max's wife Gloria Bujnowski, who managed SEPULTURA all the way until Max left the band in 1996, posted the following message regarding the above mentioned documentary. She also made it very clear that Max does not use Facebook and that all accounts that claim to be Max are fake.

"Just to remind you, Max has no FB page, so please do not friend the numerous people pretending to be him. Also, Max is NOT involved in the "official" documentary being made, even though they are using his image without Max's permission. Don't be fooled!! Funny they are using a song Max wrote, for the add, instead of a song they wrote.... Max's book, out this fall, will give the true story of his life! Have a killer Tuesday and Thank you!!"

In our humble opinion if the current members of SEPULTURA want to add production value to their documentary, they should patch things up with the Cavalera's and include them in the documentary. Otherwise, they are cutting out the roots of the band out.

SEPULTURA Need Your Help Producing Their Official Documentary!

SEPULTURA are calling all the members of the tribe, in order to help them out with the production of the official SEPS documentary. Read on...

"The long awaited documentary about SEPULTURA’s incredible journey from Brazil to the world. Filmmaker Otavio Juliano has been following SEPULTURA for the better part of 2010-2013, a time of tension and triumph for the band, as they toured and recorded their album 'Kairos'. Nothing has been off-limits. This amazing story will go through SEPULTURA’s history, myths, conflicts, personnel changes and struggles with the Internet economy in the early 2000s as well interviews and rare footage. This documentary is certain to bring fans closer to the band they love.

"About 50% of the film has been shot so far. We have witnessed this historic band experiencing wrenching transformations and unprecedented growth. We opened SEPULTURA's vault and dig into the best rare and unseen footage of the last 30 years. We will see them at their most vulnerable and human, and also as idols of the heavy metal genre. Those elements make the overall film an uncommonly powerful statement.

"Our goal is to make this full length documentary film to raise the most money, breaking all of the sites’ records in the documentary category.

"We want the film to premiere in 2014. For that, InterFace Filmes has already put down the first $100,000.00 to get production going as we have been on the road for the last 3 years with the band.

"We are starting Kickstarter at $100,000,00 just to cover some of the production trips, crew, equipment, rights, image releases, taxes, among others, but our ULTIMATE goal is to raise about $1,000,000.00 to cover the remainder of the production. Anticipated outlays include travel expenses for interviews with former band members and music biz luminaries, as well as all the post production costs, including killer graphics and global distribution to the broadest possible extent.

"If we raise more than $1 MILLION we might even be able to make part of the movie in 3D. 30 years of SEPULTURA in 3D? WHY NOT?

"So, let’s get this going right now! We only have 30 days!"
- SEPULTURA

David Kinkade Responds To Allegations That He Couldn't Jam Old SEPULTURA Properly

During a recent interview with us (see below), Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, ex-SEPULTURA) discussed the reasons why drummer David Kinkade left SOULFLY in December of 2012. As you can see, Max pretty much stated that Kinkade couldn't play the old songs properly so he decided it was time to find a NEW drummer. His son Zyon Cavalera (LODY KONG) is currently drumming for SOULFLY, but Max has made it very clear that he is currently searching for a permanent drummer.

Kinkade watched the interview in question and he is not happy with Max's comments. This is what he had to say about this:

"They want to slander me and they figure that since I was a note for note perfectionist, why not hit below the belt and make me look like a fool. I quit when I called bullshit on how the kids treated people? Shit and had absolutely zero respect for Soulfly. Snorting lines and blowing weed smoke into the bunks all the time. Anyone would have quit if having to deal with the Cavalera's and their kids for months on end. Marc and Tony are the only thing that holds that circus together. Good riddance."

Here is the two part interview:

UPDATE from David Kinkade after reading about all your comments all over the internet:

"I really appreciate the kind words. Unfortunately I permanently retired from music after my final tour last October. I haven’t played since October 23rd in Thailand. I sold all of my equipment and now I actually work on the railroad. Its hard work but the benefits and salary are well worth the effort. It goes to show the true colors since Max tries to make it look like I was fired lol. I actually quit on the last day of the last Euro tour because I was to become a Father and didn’t want to be away from my family anymore. I also couldn’t handle the Cavalera way anymore. The Soulfly experience literally broke my love for being a drummer. Too much drama, too many lies and not worth the time or energy. I worked my ass off to make a great record, play ALL the songs note for note and yet I’m talked about like a piece of shit. So much for the “respect”."

Max Cavalera Pt 2: SOULFLY, The Birth Of SEPULTURA, Band Politics & Metal Passion!

Ever since he arrived to the Heavy Music scene in 1984, Max Cavalera has been constantly reinventing his musical craft. While it was his work with the mighty SEPULTURA that helped him become an International Metal Superstar, Max has proven through his additional work with SOULFLY and CAVALERA CONSPIRACY that his musical abilities are extremely multidimensional.

Max left SEPULTURA in 1996, following the murder of Dana Wells (Max's stepson) and the firing of Gloria Cavalera Bujnowski (Max's wife & Dana's mother) as SEPULTURA's manager. While many artists would have had a hard time starting a NEW band and making it successful, Max has proven with SOULFLY that his musical vision is what sets him apart from other artists. Get this, SOULFLY turns 16 years old this year and have eight studio albums under their musical belt and are already working on album # 9, which will be produced by Terry Date!

Additionally, Cavalera has a NEW supergroup that features Greg Puciato from THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, Troy Sanders from MASTODON and David Elitch, former member of THE MARS VOLTA.

On Thursday, March 14, we met up with Max at his hotel room in New York City before the "MAXIMUM CAVALERA Tour" show at The Gramercy Theatre. SEPULTURA Return To The Primitive, Find Out Who Is Producing Their NEW Album!

It has been confirmed that SEPULTURA have hired Ross Robinson to produce their 13th studio album, the follow up to 2011's 'Kairos'. This will be the first time the band works with Robinson since 1996, which is when the bands legendary album 'Roots' was produced by Robinson.

This reunion was suggested by Monte Conner (the guy who signed SEPULTURA), who used to be the Roadrunner Records A&R chief and is now the head of Nuclear Blast Entertainment, a U.S. partnership with Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger.

"Monte was the guy who signed SEPULTURA to Roadrunner in 1988," SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser told Diario de Pernambuco. "It's been a nice experience working with him again. He always brought a good energy to the band. It will be very good to record in a studio that Ross and Steve know so well," Andreas said. This will mark the first time that the band records an album outside Brazil since 'Against'.

SEPULTURA currently has 13 NEW songs in various stages of completion.

"We are in the process of writing and we have already stared working on some of the lyrics. I am also working on guitar solos and other ideas," Andreas explained.

Asked what fans can fans expect from the upcoming SEPULTURA album, Andreas said: "I don't know; it's hard to say. This is the first time writing with [latest SEPULTURA addition] Eloy Casagrande on drums and everything sounds fresh. You'll just have to wait to hear it. It's very difficult to describe what we're doing, but I can say that will be one of the strongest SEPULTURA albums to date. It will be definitely one of the best albums in the history of SEPULTURA."

This Is How Max Cavalera Met His Wife Gloria & How They Changed Heavy Music For Ever!

But who helped to shape Max's career? His wife Gloria Cavalera. Gloria actually runs her own blog called Growing Up Green and she recently posted the story about how her and Max met, and how together they changed Heavy Music forever. Read on...

"In 1986, I took on my first band, Sacred Reich. I met Jason Rainey when he was 16 years old and hanging around The Bootlegger, which was my brother, Paul, and my club in Phoenix. Jason came to me one day and told me he had a band. Of course we booked them immediately and my relationship with Sacred Reich began. Life was a snowball, with Metal spreading through the world like a changing Season. We morphed from traveling in the back of a UHaul truck, to circling the globe, tucked in a tour bus. Times were changing quickly and Sacred was soaring in popularity.

Sacred was signed to Metal Blade Records in the US and licensed to Roadrunner Records in the rest of the world. This was the beginning of my 26 year relationship with Roadrunner. One day, early in 1989, I got a phone call from the label, asking me if I would consider managing all Roadrunner bands that had no management. I declined because there were a few acts I didn't want to work with and also, I managed differently than most managers...I traveled with my bands. I wasn't taking on a lot of acts at the same time because I was the manager, tour manager, tour accountant and merchandise seller. It was a lot to handle and I didn't want to dilute the attention I was giving to my acts. I was managing Sacred, Atrophy and dabbling a bit with Forced Entry, from Seattle and did not want to spread myself thin. I did not want to be some out of touch manager sitting in an office, sending my bands out with $5 in their pockets, cramped in a van. No, I was traveling in the same condition as my bands and working my tail off to reach new heights. Touring took a good deal of dedication and I had a clear vision of where I wanted my bands to go. I couldn't do that from an office.

One day, and many times after, Monte Conner, the new A&R from Roadrunner, called me and asked me to manage a new band he had signed from Brasil. I politely refused. I had never met them before; what if we didn't get along with each other? No, I couldn't consider it. I wasn't interested in breaking the standard I had set for myself and my groups.

A couple months later, Sacred got an offer to support King Diamond at the Ritz in NYC, on Halloween night!! We were so excited! This was going to be super cool, not to mention...it was the famous Ritz Theater! I heard Sepultura would be one of the openers, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to meet them and check out their show.

When I arrived at the Ritz, I noticed many other managers checking out Sepultura. The weird thing, all the mangers came up to me and told me not to touch Sepultura, I won't say the reasoning, I felt it was discriminatory and I admit I was a bit surprised to hear the comments. As soon as the Brasilians kicked into their set, I felt such raw energy. I also got this feeling inside of me that I only felt rarely. I can't explain it. It was a sort of premonition. I sat next to Cees Wessels and said, "I will take this band for you." Cees laughed and we chatted for a bit. I went to their dressing room after their set and we all hung out. The guys didn't speak much English and I kept mixing up Max and Igor.

Their tour eventually brought them to the Mason Jar in Phoenix. Dana, Christina and me all went down early to hang out. I was shocked to discover the low level of care the Seps were receiving. For God's sake, Paulo played the entire tour with 1 pick!! Can you imagine, no one could spend a few cents and get him a pick?? They were allowed $5 a day to live on, which I could not believe. What was worse, they had a man traveling with them who said he was their manager/tour manager, but all I could see him doing was making himself a private video collection. The band didn't even have a bottle of water or a towel to wipe their face off!! It was shocking to me. When Max asked for water, this man told him, "get it yourself!" I was speechless. I took Paulo to my house and got him some picks and cruised back to the club.

I took care of the band and got them water, towels and whatever else they needed. After the show, we went to a Motel 6 and had a meeting. They asked me to manage them. I had found out their "tour manager" had signed them to a manager who managed a soul singer(she managed a female artist such as Ertha Kitt or someone similar). This was super strange to me. The band had never even met or spoke with their manager!!! I told them I didn't step on other manager's toes and they would have to free themselves before I worked with them. We said our goodbyes with big smiles on our faces...we knew we would see each other soon. In January, I received a postcard in the mail from Max. It was a Beneath the Remains card with a nice message. I did not expect it.

A month or 2 later, a deal was negotiated and their "manager" was paid a flat fee of $10,000 and the road opened up for me to work with them. And the deal I gave them??? Haha, I said I would work for free for 1 year, to see if we would get along with each other! Now, that was for the love of music!!!"

There you have it folks, the story behind how Max and Gloria Cavalera created a Metal empire! Many thanks to Gloria for allowing us to repost this awesome story. Check her blog out here:

"Underground Music Monday's": FIREHAZE Are Cuba's Definition For Metal Music!

Nowadays Heavy Music needs a band that offers a lethal mix of hard hitting rhythmical grooves, crushing riffs, and a whole lotta soul within the lyrics. In our humble opinion, Cuba's FIREHAZE is one of the only upcoming bands in the world that is offering a very fresh mix of all the elements mentioned above. In times when music is becoming less and less memorable, and fans are switching between bands as often as they change their TV channels because of poor programming, the global Heavy Music scene needs a band that takes our music back to what it used to be like.

In mid 2009 they met Hector, another young Cuban who had recently moved from La Havana. He would become the newest member in charge of the drums. Because of the influences that Hector brought to the band, they immediately started discussing the path they thought the band should take.

The chemistry that was evident between the three the very first time that they jammed together, and due to the fact that they started working around a NEW idea they decided to change the name of the project... This is when FIREHAZE was born.

Through a D.I.Y. campaign, the band has managed to keep on board the Heavy Metal train and have managed to create some high quality songs. You can expect their NEW demo later this year, but for now here is the bands second music video. This video clip is for their song "Enemy":

The band has a few performances coming soon, here is where you can catch them live:

- FIREHAZE will be opening this Wednesday, January 30th for the European band Avatar. The event will take place at The Studio at Webster Hall in New York City.

- FIREHAZE will be performing at Jose Mangin's "Hard Attack Thursday's" this Thursday, January 31st. The event will take place at Dingbarz in Clifton, New Jersey.

- Last, but certainly not least, FIREHAZE will be part of Horns Up Rocks's THREEEEE year anniversary concert and fashion show on Wednesday, February 13th. This massive event will take place at The Trash Bar in Brooklyn, New York. Here is the official event flyer:

STRIFE's Rick Rodney Explains Why He "Escaped" From The Straight Edge Way Of Life!

After touring the world recently, STRIFE decided it was time to unleash a NEW batch of songs after 11 years of recording silence. Their newest album, 'Witness A Rebirth', was released on November 6th via 6131 records.

With producer Nick Jett (Terror, Rotting Out, Backtrack) at the helm, STRIFE recruited friend and previous collaborator, Iggor Cavalera (founding member of Sepultura and currently in Cavalera Conspiracy) to perform drums for the album and traveled to Brazil to record with him. Soon after, they returned to California and put the rest of the pieces into place, including guest vocals by Billy Graziadei (Biohazard) and Scott Vogel (Terror), plus a guitar solo by Marc Rizzo (Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy). The rest serves as a testament to their talent, bridging their past (especially the contemporary Hardcore sound. 'Witness A Rebirth' is at once both refreshing and evocative.

On Monday, December 3, with just 24 hours to promote the show, STRIFE took over a packed Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, New York and demonstrated why they are globally known for delivering a furious display of old school Hardcore music. Right after the bands set, we had the chance to chat with the bands frontman Rick Rodney.

During the interview we discussed 'Witness The Rebirth', the bands return to New York City, and why he decided to "escape" from the Straight Edge way of life. Before we share the interview with you, we figured we'd explain to you what being Straight Edge means. Straight Edge is basically living a clean life without drugs, drinking and casual sex. It's living a poison free and keeping yourself safe. It is a choice and it does not make you better or worse than anyone. We all make choices and some choose to be straight edge and some don't. Yes, it's true that some people will stop being sXe when they turn 21 but that is just another choice. Straight Edge is a way of life but has now been formed into a trend. Out there, there are true edgers.

What other factors can influence a persons decision to "escape" the Straight Edge way of life? Watch what Rodney had to say about this:

Zulie's 12 Pieces Of Eye Candy For 2012 - Image Gallery Available!

In 2012, Horns Up Rocks' Zulie Alvarez entered plenty of photo pits throughout the tri-state area and captured a lot of very memorable moments. Before we share with you "Zulie's 12 Pieces Of Eye Candy For 2012", let us tell you about the wonderful Zulie.

Zulie was born in Ecuador in 1982 and arrived in Brooklyn, NY in 1985. During her High School years she picked up her first camera (an Olympus IS-30 DLX) and started shooting random surroundings, such as: objects around her home, friends, animals, and pretty much anything that caught her attention along the way. This resulted in her adopting some visual aesthetics that she still applies to this day. Zulie’s pristine vision is transmitted via her camera lens and in only 13 years she has been able to capture some very unique and memorable photographs. Her work is constantly evolving and she is always willing to learn new things.

Randy Blythe, Robb Flynn, Max Cavalera & Many More Pay Tribute To Mitch Lucker - TONS Of Video Available!

Last night (December 21), the remaining members of SUICIDE SILENCE - Chris Garza, Mark Heylmun, Alex Lopez and Dan Kenny - were joined by many of Heavy Music's finest to pay tribute to their frontman Mitch Lucker. The Heavy Music world was struck earlier this year by the very sad news that Mitchell Adam Lucker passed away at the young age of 28 (More information HERE). According to the Los Angeles Times, Lucker struck a light pole near the intersection of Main and 13th streets and was thrown from his 2013 Harley Davidson. The motorcycle continued sliding south on Main Street and struck a northbound 2007 Nissan Titan pickup.

Joining the SUICIDE SILENCE boys were Randy Blythe (LAMB OF GOD), Robb Flynn (MACHINE HEAD) and Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, SEPULTURA), who were among the "surprise" guests that took center stage to pay tribute to Lucker. The event was hosted by Jose Mangin from Sirius XM and took place at the Fox theater in Pomona, California. All proceeds from the event went towards the education of Mitch's five-year-old daughter, Kenadee Lucker.

Here is the complete list of performers:

- Randy Blythe (LAMB OF GOD)
- Robb Flynn (MACHINE HEAD)
- Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, SEPULTURA)
- Jonathan "Johnny Plague" Cooke (WINDS OF PLAGUE)
- Brook Reeves (IMPENDING DOOM)
- Chad Gray (HELLYEAH, MUDVAYNE)
- Danny Worsnop (ASKING ALEXANDRIA)
- Tim Lambesis (AS I LAY DYING)
- Eddie Hermida (ALL SHALL PERISH)
- Phil Bozeman (WHITECHAPEL)
- Austin Carlile (OF MICE & MEN)
- Anthony Notarmaso (AFTER THE BURIAL)
- Cameron "Big Chocolate" Argon (DISFIGURING THE GODDESS)
- Myke Terry (ex-BURY YOUR DEAD)
